Richmond and Zetland, easily. Me on the final leg beating Cullen's course record by 20sec wearing Addidas Roms with perfect pose technique, donning a t-shirt stating "determination, belief, commitment - not talent. Just do it!"
anyone who runs for Belgrave smells of poo.
I am hearing of a big push by Highgate to break the belgrave hegemony at the Southern 6's. They've recruited Keith Cullen & Ben Noad and have a reasonable first 6.
Aldershot came very close last yr with that big run from Thompson. Is he in the same shape? Could be a good race.
Bedford should have a good team, and Newham if they can get everyone out must be favourites, after Belgrave. I guess the GNR will obliterate some teams and its a bit of a funny time of year all round. I know I am running like an old granny at the moment after a break post track season but I'll be doing my bit for the club, not that the Irish will be anywhere near the medals.
Alty to upset Morpeth and Salford at the Northerns!
Are you running then Stormin? Heard you'd done your ankle in. What's your team?
Morpeth look weakened by GNR, so no real problem there.
afd are missing their bignames but still ahve a reasonable team out!
Who have Highgate got other than Cullen, and Noad, the Belgian guy Claeys? Who else??? I think our team will be almost as good as theirs and we have no chance! Whats happened to the Dutch guy who ran for Bedford last year?
AFD have many of their 12 stage boys in. Another young team, but still solid.
This year we'll try and get all 3 teams inside the top 20.
Thompson did have a good run last year but it was the team that gave him that launch pad. We are not a one man team and have proved that before.
Come on the SHOTS, do the stuff on our own back yard!!!!
Leeds to upset Alty...!
Greg is back in Holland training for New York. He was living in Bedford with a girl but that ended. He said he really enjoyed the scene over here as there is little in terms of team events like the relays over in Holland.
Bedford team is suffering a few absences for one reason or another - injuries, operations, weddings, start of uni term etc. As stated, its a funny time of year - some of our guys only ran their last track race 3 or 4 weeks back and have had a break since then so not racing yet.
Midland Relays - i think if Notts ac have a full strength team out they will walk it.Possible challengers Coventry, Birchfield and Tipton. Fastest leg?
is warburton running?
I predict we will get our asses kicked worse than usual but our vets will win.
The recently formed Bristol & West A.C gets my vote. Mike Down has finally taken over the Men's side and if his success with the womens squad is anything to go by then the club could pose a real threat. As for fastest leg- Rob Whalley is in with a real chance.
Going by his "success" with the womens squad that'll mean they after enticing any promising runner from other local and not so local clubs he still won't be able to organise them to all turn up on the day.
Will be interesting to see where all the women tempted to join Bristol over the last ten years are on saturday.
And the new vests are horrible.
Not bristolian either but have to give credit where credit is due. Mike has produced some very successful teams in recent years.
Heard that he has recruited more talent on both men's and women's sides.
Womens squad are bound to medal if the team includes Stiles, Reed, and the other two women who ran the bristol half.
Agree vests are less than impressive!
Not wishing to hijack thread but...
Credit isn't due here though. If Bristol had developed the talent that has been through the club they would not need to be recruiting seniors. Heidi Moulder, Caroline McNulty, Charlie Coffey, Dorethea Lee, Sam Gray, Vicky Rolfe, Sharon Dixon. That's just of the top of my head. Where are they now? And all but Caroline recruited from other clubs. (OK - I do actually know where Heidi and Charlie are).
I'm also not sure quite what those very succesful teams are anyway. Womens National Cross champions this year granted, don't want to be too ungracious about that one. But apart from that only a couple of midland relay medals spring to mind, which bearing in mind the runners available and the standards in some of those competitions, is a pretty poor return.
Is there a reason why Bristol's most succesful athletes of recent years - Ben Noad, Kate Reed, Jo Pavey and Gary Davenport - have achieved what they have outside of the club setup? Or that at least half of those have now left Bristol AC.
