For those that have had achilles tendonitis, did eccentric exercise help/work in your recovery? How long did they take to make things better?

Absolutely. I went from barely being able to walk (had to avoid bending my knee, like walking in a cast) on the first day to resuming full training two weeks after my injury. Mine wasn't a minor case either, I had scar tissue build up near the end (have someone massage that) and there was plenty of "creaking" near the middle of the two weeks. I took a week completely off and the following week I added mileage slowly. Back up to 80 or whatever mileage I was doing for the third week.
Worked for me too, but not as fast as the poster above me. At about 95% on 4th week, 100% on 5th week.
Also, do a search on this board. Pretty much this exact topic has come up about 20 times in the past year...
Worked for me, as above.
I would only add that it is advised to continue the exercises for a total of about 12 weeks, even though the problem has subsided.
Yes. Do them. They help in the medium-term, and even once I was starting to run again, they would actually provide some immediate relief if my achilles was feeling a little achey during a run.
Don't forget to do your healthy leg too - the calf on my injured leg is now about 1.5 cm larger in circumference than my non-injured leg...
