OSX is Unix based. W
hy do some people resort to the installed user base as the proof of superiority. BetaMax was far superior to VHS, but VHS won out in the end. Why? Because JVC licensed the technology and Sony didn't. Same with PCs; IBM licenced the technology, Gate's "borowed" the OS, and the cheap machines found their way into more homes thatn the more expensive Apple. Apple used to licence, but stopped doing so when Jobs came back.
Cheaper does not always mean inferior, but with the security holes and constant need for security updates, Windows is not the shining star. For all the Microsoft defenders out there, what has Microsoft done to defend your computer from the hackers and virus' out there? Issue a fix after the fact? That's great support.
I am a Mac and Wintel user. I use the PC primarily for everyday use, simply because there are more programs available for Windows. I use the Mac for specific jobs, such as video editing and photo manipulation, apps where the code is written specifically for the Mac G5.
