Oh yeah, because it would be so much better if he said (and thought)...
"Man, Bekele and everyone else is too good for me, I knew I wouldn't be up there with them. Didn't believe it going in, certainly don't believe it now. But hey, some guys are just more talented than me and I have to accept I'll never be as good and its ridiculous to even think about running with them, let alone talk about it. 15th was great for an American and I was really going for top 16, so I accomplished my goal."
"The kid"... go back to hoping to beat my pathetic ass at a road race and let the Olympians think big like they should. I know I'll be supporting Abdi and his dream's and ambitions. Its too bad you can't do the same. You're the same guy that tells Broe "good job man, 11th is great for an American!" instead of, "Next time, with more training and less injuries under your belt, you can be up there with El G and Bekele and you better believe it."
Quit cutting down our guys. Even though YOU can't fathom running with Bekele, Geb, etc, some people in this country can. And that's something that has been missing for a long time. The talent is here, its the head that has been missing until recently and you trying to bring that level of thinking down is just hurting American running.
