I would absolutely agree with you on this had he initially been a 400 m runner that then moved up and dominated in the 1500 through 5000. Lance was always too heavy to be a good climber it just didn't make sense from a physiological standpoint. He went from being a classics one day type rider to winning grantours, that is "not normal".

This is some BS, though, considering all of them were doping. You don't think there was a prototypical climber and GC contender also doping? There were tons. Pantani, for example. Ulrich. Lance was probably a combination of two things 1) actually suited for GC contention if he trained for it specifically (a lot of guys are like this--they start as Classic and TT riders and evolve into GC threats like Wiggins) 2) doping a little more / a little smarter than the competition.

You're also ignoring the fact that in the TdF, the time trials are arguably just as important as the climbs. Depending on the profile of the mountain stages, sometimes they are more important. A few years ago, it was basically a foregone conclusion that Schleck and other climbing specialists had no chance given the profile of the course. Lance killed the TT.

Lagat is clean. You want to know why is he running so well at 39? He never ran high mileage and didn't do excessive training which allowed him to prolong his career. Also, he isn't in his prime anymore, but he is tactically savvy.

As he got older and slowed slightly he moved up in distance from 1500m to 5k, which coupled with the accumulative miles on his legs(good endurance), his remaining speed, and his tactics, have mad him a threat still at the age of 39. I really hope to see him dominating in his 40s.

Lagat is the man and a hero to me. If he was dirty I'd be upset, but he's clean so speculate all you want but there will never be a drug bust against him unless Nike pays off someone to frame Lagat.

Now hold on; last month Rupp was the man and you were all about being a junior NOPer.

Lagat is from a barbarian land where people age more slowly than Europeans. Less civilization means lower population, higher infant mortality and greater risk of earlier-than-natural death, all of which are strong selective pressures for long natural lifespan.

Why then don't all Kenyans stay fast, because as soon as they make some money, they go home, buy a farm and enjoy their prosperity. The genetics that give them slow aging does nothing for their athletic performance, that's just about the money. Once they've got enough, they get sick of the hard work and quit. Rich people are lazy.

Lagat is a US citizen so a few thousand dollars isn't a fortune to him like other Kenyans. He likes competing and probably regrets losing to El G and Ngeny, so he doesn't quit.

HG is exactly the same way, he likes racing better than managing his real estate. For some reason he gets accused of doping much less than Lagat.
