Thanks for all the opinions.
After my long run (22 miler), while in the shower, I did notice some chafing on the inner arms, I think because my arms were rubbing the straps. Didn't notice while I was running.
The added weight did slow me down early on, but was probably a good thing, kept me from going too fast.
Definetly heard the sloshing of water'd down gatorade, even over my MP3 player.
I'm thinking I will use it again this weekend for my long run (over half of the 20 miler will be in the trails). The negatives about the chafing, sloshing, and added weight, during my firt use, were overshadowed by the positive, being able to get little drinks throughtout the run, and I think gave me more energy near the end of the run.
Or maybe that was the clif shot, and clif bar pieces, I brought with me as well, in a fuel belt style water bottle pack (filled the bottle with water).
Maybe I'll just use the fuel belt (only holds 1 bottle) for the Mary, which should get me thru the first several water stations in the race (where from previous posts, I heard they can be crowded) then use the water stations, although I do have problems with drinking water out of the little cups while running.
A little worried about the extra weight, slowing me down, during the race, hoping to come in under 9MPM pace.
He'd probably crack that elusive 9 minute mile pace in his 'Mary' if he wasn't wearing 50 pounds of gear. What a waste of energy carrying all of that shit. Fanny packs, camel backs, MP3. WTF?
Welcome to DC, home of the transient yuppie.
too bad they'll get dq'd in the "mary" for wearing an MP3 player, no headphones allowed folks!
Maybe after he gets DQ'd in his BQ attempt he can go to refuel at BK and DQ.
what the hell do all those abbreviations mean?
9 minutes per mile and this guy calls himself a runner? no wonder runners have a bad reputation, all the slow kids are trying to claim they are "runners". what is this world coming to
mp3s are decent, they at least prevent one song being stuck in your head for miles on end. thats the only reason I would use one.
I think there's so much classic material in there that that post has to be a ruse. A funny one at that, jabbing at the purveyors and purchasers of race ready shorts and the like.
Its kinda funny, I moved to DC (college) after running in a place where I pretty much never saw any otehr runners. When I see people running here, I cant believe the amout of shit they are lugging around. Probably 75% of the people will be carrying an mp3 player, camelback, hydration belt, fanny packs, cell phone, gps system, $50 coolmax shirts, shoes with springs in them, little pockets that attach to your shoes, 5 gu packets, etc. I feel really wierd when im running with only a pair of shorts and shoes (very minimalistic ones as well). I mean how far are most of these people going? 4 miles? Its a f***ing run, not a survival contest.
