The other announcer is Dan O'Brien. Long past his shelf life as a T/F commentator.
Someone get that Iceland girl a coach. Disgraceful form. The Canadian girl ran gutsy though, to beat the NCAA champ andx give Ajee some heat.

That was awesome. I never would have expected Leer to become a 3:52 miler. Dude just keeps steadily improving.
7th fastest ever US indoor... Just a bit behind Maree...
Awesome race all around...
Anybody watch the HS Boys Mile? Luke Gavigan of Tappen Zee (NY) FTW in 4:08, Tim McGowen (Northport NY) beating his teammate Mike Brannigan to go 4:10. Bad run for Brannigan, as he was in third with 150 meters left but died almost immidiately. I think he did a 4:29 to finish second to last.
Sean Kelly, stud from Chaminade (Long Island, NY), third with a 4:11. Tony Russell (West Chester Henderson PA), who had the fastest seed, led for the middle laps, ends up in fourth with a 4:12.
Huge run for McGowen and Gavigan. Gavigan has been putting up fire times this year but proves he is the real deal. He currently has the fastest mile time in the US right now. McGowen on the other hand has been living in Mike Brannigan's shadow for the last couple months but as of the last couple weeks has been upstaging Mikey. Incredibly time, Northport school record, and also a great confidence booster.
Hopefully Brannigan can bounce back at the NY State Championships in two weeks. 4:29 is obviously not at his normal level and it was concerning to see him implode on the last lap.
Imagine you are a seasoned pro like Uceny and you lose by 5 seconds in a slowish mile.

What the hell is Mossier doing taking a victory lap with MC? She got 2nd place. Get off the track and let the WINNER take her victory lap.
Last year Reid won brought second-place Cain on her victory lap. Cain is passing it on. They are training partners.
You must be a sad, sad person to be bothered by this.
Yep, by a tenth. As a big time D1 coach, I know these things.
I need to comment on Mary Cain's run.
Great composure and savvy.
She wasn't concerned with place and probably didn't want to lead.
But with the rabbit running away and the field deferring to her, she was stuck with leading duty.
And it didn't phase her. She ran ran her race and was in everyone's head.
She handled the challenges and them laid down the hammer.
I have seen a lot of season pros not be able to handle that.
And her enthusiasm is great for the sport.
Very impressive.
Hello
Cain wouldn't take the lead. Emma Coburn lead almost the whole race and had to be the rabbit cause Cain wouldn't go with the rabbit. Cudos to Coburn for taking over and at least making the race legit.
WILL LEER BOSS HOG KILLIN SWAG 3:52 #DESTROYINGEVERYONE
LEER IS GOING TO GET ON THE WORLDS TEAM THIS YEAR

She said after the race that when she pulled behind the rabbit and didn't feel any pressure she decided to practice a tactical style race and her kick. The field obviously was afraid to push the pace and she knew it.
Anyone who questioned her skipping the NCAA meat grinder system needs to watch this race again and explain what she would have benefitted from it.
Didn't Rupp go through your alleged NCAA meat grinder system?

Yes although there are exemptions, there is no reason for MC to sacrifice proper long term development of her talent for meaningless points.

Those points are for titles. Those titles are no more or less meaningless than any other non-NCAA titles. And there's no such thing as sacrificing long term development.

An olympic/wc title is more meaningful than a pac-12 championship, you dimwit. And there is such thing as sacrificing long term development. Imagine if I took a hammer and bashed your legs apart with it. That would make it more difficult for you to train well and would thus hamper your Long Term Development.

No, that is not necessarily true. I know athletes who would say that various titles throughout their athletic history are their most meaningful. Not just the titles that came from the Olympics or whatever equivalent national/world championship. Perhaps you don't understand the definition of "meaningful".
And no, there is no such thing as sacrificing long term development. Your hammer analogy is irrelevant and dumb because.... running is not a hammer. The training that you do now does not affect the training you're able to do in years.
#YOBRO, you say "The field obviously was afraid to push the pace and she knew it."… I call BS
Emma Coburn obviously wasn't afraid to push the pace because she ran in lane 2 for the first part of the race and eventually realized no one else was going to step up, so she took the lead.
Salazar requested that the rabbit be there to push the pace…well Cain didn't follow the rabbit. As a result Coburn had to take the lead and push the pace herself. It seems to me that it wasn't "the field" who was afraid but in fact Cain who didn't follow the rabbit and run the race she could have. The coach shouldn't be able to request a pace if his or her runner isn't going to follow that pace.
