No, the cross training on the day of the 10 miler for
an aerobic overload followed by 2 days of supercompensation.
If she had a bigger life base, even at 55, you could put
the tempo in the 10 miler.

Would you hire a marathon coach to help you with your weight events?
I would hire this guy....
http://www.navysports.com/sports/m-xc/mtt/cantello_al00.htmlAlso I didn't say that I had no experience with running. I have gone through marathon training and ran a 1:40 in my only half at 214 pounds. I went through the training and although I am no expert have a competent understanding of sound training principles....
Also...if any of you distance coaches had a talented kid in the field events with no guidance I hope that you would put your egos aside and try to make them better....

I have been lurking awhile and post very sparingly not a friendly or mature place at all.
She needs to build mileage. Of course the long run needs to be built up so she can utilize fat when her glycogen depletes after a few hours.
I just hope she does not end up getting injured on such a short time to build up mileage before the marathon.
Most marathon programs are 16 to 18 weeks.
Good luck.

We would, by trying to find them a field events coach. Thinking we could teach them anything would be very egotistical.

Thanks Perry. I don't think I was clear enough that this is a half marathon not a full that she is running.

IMO what I am doing here is the opposite of egotistical. If I were to just work with her without seeking out advice first that would be egotistical.
She isn't training for the olympics. She is an older women looking to stay in shape and PR in her half marathon. I feel that with some help I have enough competence to help her achieve her goal....

How many miles was she running per week when she went 1:57? She needs to run more than that.
Make a good part of that running at goal pace. Make some of it at slightly faster than goal pace.
Thanks for the reply Joho.
She was running about 20-25 miles a wk (plus 2hrs cross training) when she ran this time. What is a good plan for her mileage leading up to the race? Does this look ball park?
Wk 1 20 (Long 8)
Wk 2 22 (Long 9)
Wk 3 25 (Long 10)
Wk 4 28 (Long 12)
Wk 5 30 (Long 10)
Wk 6 8-10 (plus race)
*With one 5k tempo per week
Thoughts?
I wouldn't worry about getting the long run over 10. Instead have 2 or 3 runs per week include mileage at race goal pace. Have the long runs finish with the last 3 or 4 miles at goal pace.
If she can't do that she shouldn't expect a PR.

You sound like a self-obsessed prick.

Amazing! You are the next Salazar!
I went through the training and although I am no expert have a competent understanding of sound training principles....
Why are you here then? You keep asking the same question over and over again expecting a different answer. 10 different people already told you, she needs to run more.
She wants to stay I shape and PR... Which one? All with no more than 15 mpw. Awesome. Just bypass it all and go buy a participant medal.

Because I got advice from three people that went beyond that and gave me a bit more insight as to giving her the best shot at success. Thank you to those who were constructive. It was worth it for that. Overall though a pretty nasty place though....
and btw....a 1:40 half at 214 is competent. Its besides the point but it shows that I have experience with what she is trying to achieve.
Gl to all.
Any advice on any forums that are more welcoming?
Southern Dandy gave you the answer, but you didn't want to listen, not even thank him. Then you're complaining about this place being unfriendly. Pathetic.
He was definitely included. Thanks Southern Dandy.

This place is worth it, you just have to wade through the jackasses and idiots. Some of them are even entertaining.

By saying that, do you mean you are looking for a place that will tell you what you want to hear, instead of answering your question?
