I am a personal trainer who was recently hired by a 55 year old female to help her PR in the NYC half marathon in 6 weeks. Running is not my specialty and I wanted to get some advice to make sure that our plan is sound.
Clients background;
-No past injuries of note.
-1:57 Half PR (2:01 NYC last year)
-Came to me with low motivation and feeling sluggish
-Mileage is about 15 per week right now
-Mixes in spinning 1x per week and a les mills body pump 60 high endurance weight lifting session 1x per week.
-Is no concerned with low mileage and feels like speed is her limiting factor
-On our general assessment ran an 8:15 all out mile
-Just ran 8 miles the next day at 10:05 pace
-Has done little to no speed work in the past
-Has followed Hal Higdon novice half marathon plan in the past but is currently not on any plan
I know that this is not that much info but I was hoping to start a discussion here. What else should I be considering. What is a general theme/layout for a plan for this client. Is this a realistic goal?
