What do you mean by "better"? I feel like I'm running faster at night, but I think that's a trick of the darkness more than anything.
I'm the same way. Part of why I like Portland weather better than Texas weather. I do not run as well when the sun is beating down on me, regardless of temperature. I don't know if there's any science to this, but I just say it's because I must be a vampire.
The 800 Guy!
What's up dude? This is That Fast Runner. Hows your training been going?
No as In I feel better and go faster. It's not temperature related either.
Temperature is measured in a field in shade. Running in the day is much warmer not to mention radiated heat from the ground surface (roads, track, etc.). The sun striking your skin also creates it to warm, thus greater energy is used to cool the body as blood moves to the surface of the skin.
At night temperatures are decreasing. Day they are generally increasing.
There could be a lot to this though. Diet, hydration, hormones and chemicals in the blood. I've also read VO2 max is higher at night.
Just a few thoughts...
I run much better at night. One of my best races was at about 9:30/10pm.
I think it's because I've been moving around in the day so am more warmed up, or better hydrated, or just generally feel better in the evenings.

If the vo2 max is higher at night that explains it. I literally feel like I cabt process oxygen during the day.

Bump
Today I paced a guy for an 800. Ran through 600. 29's across the board (middle was just slightly faster like a if anything). It was at 3:30 and aerobically it sucked. My lungs felt poor and I felt like I got no oxygen BUT my muscles and legs felt amazing. Super light and quick, didn't hurt either only my lungs. I bet tonight on my tempo I'll feel aerobically strong though (like I always do at night) p
Bump.
I started taking iron and creatine(again) and have noticed that I feel better during the day, just not as good as at night.
Well looks like nobody cares lol but after research and all I concluded that I was getting very little iron in my diet because I'm poor lol. Well that explains why I've been inconsistent and I theorize that I ran decently at night was because of iron from dinner or general energy from it. The iron supplementing has worked great though and I feel pretty good all day while running.
