starting to get onto the track for some early season work. 10x200m @29-30 /w 45 sec recovery in between. does this workout indicate anything at all for 1500m bearing in mind that it felt pretty smooth and was the first time i've been on a track in months? 800m pr = 1:54

do more workouts and you'll figure it out
there's definitely no clear correlation between 200s and a 1500m time though, it's too short of a workout. do some 300s/400s

Sounds like you have a high natural anaerobic capacity. You are likely fresh from a neuromuscular standpoint and as such this felt surprisingly easy.
It seems to indicate that you don't need to work on your speed too much.
also want to add that the workout was done in my pegasus 29's which are clunky as hell. not sure if that makes a big diff

I'm a 1:58 guy and my legs would have been shot after the first set following 8 months of no speedwork.
if it is in the context of an 80 mile week with two workouts (say a fartlek & tempo) a long run of 12-14, you're looking good for sub4!
just kidding around (sort of). you should be doing stuff like this year round, good idea to touch 800-mile pace 1X a week to maintain power & economy.
good that you feel smooth at sub-mile race pace, but reps are too short to tell you squat. now if you did a 3-4 mile tempo @ 5:10 pace as another session in the week, that tells me you are in shape & I would say you're looking good for sub-4 1500.
Coe used to do 20X200 in about 27 with 30-45 sec before the competitive season.
Kenyans like to do 8X200 with 30 sec (Kipketer seems to have done 16X200 like this before his WR) as an indication of 800m race pace (indicator workout).
Workouts like these should give you confidence about your race fitness.
