Not sure either. Why not put it in checked luggage. You can even put a gun in cheaked luggage. Has to be in a case with TSA locks.

When flying back from NYC marathon this month there were some travelers from japan trying to carryon 4 blenders (in the box). Security (TSA) would not allow it.
