CMM268- As you see I got in an okay week of miles, but per usual after a hard half my legs are still a little flat. They usually feel normal again after 10-14 days, which in my case this week would mean just in time for my turkey trot / tune-up for the next half.
NP1112- As I mentioned yesterday, first place gets a turkey and 2nd place gets a ham, so I am hoping for some sort of food prize. Although competition at this thing has been tough the past couple of years so I would really just like to run the equivalent of my sea-level PR. (So Hoping for about 16:10-16:20 or so). If I come across the line and see 15:xx as I cross I'll be psyched.
NJ Truth- That looks good, I think when I was younger (HS/college) I liked to do my last tune-up workout 3 days out from a 5K, but if it's a longer workout like what you did I would say 4-5 days out is good. I also like to get an off day in there about 2-3 days out like what you did.
One thing I have thought about is doing a couple of 400s @ 5K pace/effort at the end of the shake out run the day before. It was a routine that I started my senior year of HS after I noticed a pattern where I raced well after fast efforts 1-2 days before, so I started doing a fast 400 @ 800m pace the day before a meet. I have pretty much forgotten about it until recently, but haven't really gotten a chance to experiment with it as I think it really only helps for shorter races like 800/1500/5000. I realize you probably don't want to do anything too different at this point in your season, so I'll experiment tomorrow and report back!
