I've heard so many different things about the rest that you need from the last xc meet, until you begin training for track season. Once the miles start picking up when do you begin to start with speed/track workouts? What works and what doesn't?
After a decent xc season (Junior: 16:42), I want to qualify for the indoor state meet in either the 1600 or 800 (4:38/1:57 outdoor). The qualification meets I'm looking at are scattered throughout Febuary and early March. At those meets I need to be close to 2:00. With the important outdoor meets being in May, I dont want to begin speed work too soon but I also want to be able to run fast in mid March. Is it possible?
One week after regionals (final xc meet), I started with about 20mpw. Two weeks after that I'm back up to about 45 mpw at a nice relaxed pace (no watch). Is this too soon? Any suggestions?
