I think he could probably get a job coaching at a college after he finishes competitive running.
He definitely should write a tell all book and publish it after his career.

College Coach:
Because he really understands how to not screw up talent.
Tell all Book:
Because billions of people give a rat's butt about distance running.
richmond 8k is fast
Be as snarky as you want, but he could definitely get a coaching job.
He went 23:10 for 8K on a fast course.
An evenly split 10K in 28:57 would hit 8K in 23:10.
An evenly split 10K in 27:00 would hit 8K in 21:36.
Webb's 8K fitness projects he is in shape aerobically to run a 3:35 1500 with about 6 weeks of specificity. Note that he is an anaerobic monster, so a 23:10 8K doesn't equal a 3:35 1500 for most runners.
This also indicates he is in shape to run about 14:00-14:05 for 5000.
Webb has to take advantage of his anaerobic capacity if he wants to be competitive, and that is maximized for him at 800m and 1500m. He's kidding himself with this 5000m+ non-sense, although it is perfect for training.
Second hand - or maybe third - information but last weekend I was in Portland. I stopped into the big triathlon shop, Athletes Lounge, to shower after running in Forest Park. Folks at the shop were talking about how Webb reached out to them - through an intermediary - expressing some interest in triathlon. They didn't have much more info, but seemed interesting. Maybe some day down the road we'll see him doing Olympic distance races. I'd be curious to know if he's currently doing any swimming or cycling.
I am guessing he wanted mid 22s and tired out. I am glad that he continues to race. He gets out there and sees where he is at. If he does more 28-29 10ks he can get a good base for the Spring.
You people realize he already is a college coach?
Re: Triathlon. It is not his sport. He would get to use almost none of his true gift, which is his freakish anaerobic capacity supported by an exceptional aerobic capacity.
He would be much better suited to cycling where anaerobic capacity is of great value when supported by a big aerobic capacity.
Triathlon would be a waste of his time as much as running distances beyond 1500m if his goal is to compete at an international level. If he just wants to train a lot and garner attention for Nike, triathlon would do the trick, but it will never be what he's best at.
23:10 is a pretty decent time but he just needs to move on with his life. He's an age group winner now, just stop

It's not about the time
That makes no sense. The best indicator of fitness is the time run. There is no way to tell how fit someone is solely from who the opposition is.
Ksk, don't be ignorant.

its curious for me though to see that the first five guys are all listed as being in the open race, yet webb is listed as being in his age category. probably looking too much into this, but is there a chance he didnt register for open and just ran what he felt like today.
regardless, while he used to crush guys like this in races years ago this ia a good sign because up until recently HE was the guy getting crushed, he's at least making progress back towards being the front runner in races like this.
usually in results where the open awards go 5 deep, 10 deep, etc, they take those runners out of the age group category. I never quite understood why youre not allowed to double dip in races.
Money went to top 5 and he was put into age group
results for award purposes!
I think it's great he hasn't just given up. With as many ups and downs as he's had in his career, most other guys would have retired long ago.
Interested to see what distance(s) he focuses on later.

If Webb runs 23:10, then you know he can run an 8k somewhere between 0-23:10. If you only know who he beat, then you know he can run an 8k between 0-infinity. Try again and tell me which range is smaller.
No no no. Ha! It is not precise at all when it a cross country course and you dont know if it is all down hill all with wind at your back or simply a course that is 200 meters short

Webb is 30-yrs-old and only two months older than Mo Farah. If Webb can resolve his injuries, demons, training, and motivation issues I see no reason why he can't have world class performances again.
