im training for a half marathon on low mileage (50-60mpw) and thought of this workout:
2mile tempo, 400j, 8x400 with 100j, 2mile tempo
The 2m tempo's would be at goal HM pace and the 8x400's would be at like 10k pace

BS
i like it. last 2miles might simulate staying relaxed @ race pace after throwing down a midrace surge. how much rest would you give yourself after the last 400? or would you just jump right into the second 2mi?
since the 400s will have you really warmed up, you could maybe even do a cutdown the last 2mi...start at HM pace & squeeze it down by feel, maybe to 10K pace or slightly faster if feeling it.
i'm training for a HM right now too (with a 10K two weeks before my goal HM) & am looking to put together some "hybrid" tempo/vo2max workouts as well to touch different paces (5K/10K/HM) in the same workout. straight tempos/cruise interval sessions @ HM pace are getting a boring...was thinking of the following next week:
straight 2-3mi @ HM pace,
jog 2-3min recovery
3x1K @ 5K pace w/equal recovery
1x2K @ 10K pace
No really. This is a great 5k/10k workout, not a half marathon.
Too much recovery. We are talking about rest between tempos and rest between each 400 and rest between the next tempo.
Too much rest.
I recommend the following:
1k @ 10k pace
2k @ 1/2 marathon pace
1k @ 10k pace
2k @ 1/2 marathon pace
1k @ 10k pace
2k @ 1/2 marathon pace
1k @ 10k pace
All continuous, no breaks.
that's a ridiculous workout...difference between 10K & HM pace for fast guys isn't all that much. you might as well race a 10K instead of tackling this in training session!

OP: do literally anything except this.

Just do it and see how it goes. It looks like it would be a solid workout. I wasn't running that many miles/week and was consistently doing 5 miles at half marathon pace. This workout would be similar in effort.
I do some hill workouts on the treadmill and think up different workouts to do. It's a little more complicated with the incline but I can usually do the workouts I devise. If it is a little easier, I can always increase the pace. If it's a little too tough, I go until I can't hold on any longer and then do a cooldown to make up the extra miles.
