I die a little bit to think that my people are taking cruises. Have authentic experiences everyone!
You could run a full 26.2 on the ship deck:

I cannot work out what your GPS watch will record your pace as. I guess the ship will be going at 20mph or thereabouts? We need a maths expert who specializes in vectors
It's gonna be tough, nautical miles are longer.
Well it should average out just fine, but given the cruising speed of the ship you'll be recording an inacurately fast pace when running towards the front and when you're running towards the back you'll likely record standing still or no pace at all. Awesome experiment!
I worked on a ship for 6 months and the Promenade deck was almost exactly 400 meters around. When we were at sea I would do my runs on that deck but it was tough as it was used by ALL the passengers that ran AND walked too. Forget etiquette...
So speed work was out of the question. I usually waited until we docked every 2-3 days and ran a harder workout off ship. There were two Portuguese waiters that were quite good runenrs and we would do tempos as soon as we hit land. Great way to scope out the area first too.
why are you running on a cruise
take some time to relax and calm down
Careful, that's how whirlpools get started in the ocean, footage below:
The cruise ship I was on had a measured path around one deck. Forget about GPS and just count laps like a track workout.
What? Of course it wouldn't work out fine. His GPS would measure his distance as the sum of how far the boat traveled (and him with it) over that time, plus all of his running around on the boat. For it to "average out just fine," his GPS would have to somehow know that he was on a boat and use that as a reference point, in which case it would need to have a 2nd GPS unit on the boat linked up.If you actually want to use your GPS to record your run (instead of just counting laps...) you will need two and then start and stop them at the same time. The difference between their readings is how far you went.

It wouldn't even average out the running to calculate the speed of the boat. I think this guy is just a moron.
OP, just pretend it's a track. I doubt many people are up at 5:00AM on a cruise ship, run then.
Definitely go early in the morning. I went on some cruise that had a pretty decent lap deck but had to content with some drunk yelling "looking good little runner lady" every time I passed by him. It got old quickly.
It scares me that two people took my post seriously enough to respond.
Also make sure to keep your feet close to the track. If you do bounding strides where you are in the air for a while you have to account for both the movement of the ship and the rotation of the Earth.
how about ditch the piece of garbage couple hundred dollar gps watch and run off of feel? why do you need a watch to tell you how far you went...
Let me weigh in here.
You're going on a cruise to have fun and get laid (I hope so at least). If you're running around the deck people will make fun of you and your scrawny frame.
Now it's too late to gain serious muscle mass before the cruise but it's not too late for a short term PUMP. So your best bet is to work out daily in the gym and shift heavy iron. Good luck.
There is a thread about this
I figured Xfit_guy_the_real_one_1 would have jumped the shark by now but he just keeps going.
Buddy, I have no idea who you are but I am your number one fan. Keep doing your thing - you bring a smile to my face every day.
I ran on the middle ship in this pic a few years back on a Baltic cruise to St. Petersburg, Russia.
It was seven laps to the mile on the upper deck. It had artificial turf and the turns on the corners were tight. But I remember it was about 67 degrees and bright sunshine with nothing but shining sea 360 degrees around. Pretty glorious.
I've never worn a GPS watch, so I just ran for time and perceived effort. Probably will do you some good to not be a slave to the GPS You're on vacation, bro. Relax!
