Victory is ours six American men were fast enough to beat Jeptoo. Two of them were under 2:22:45.
35 years after her first marathon (Bermuda 2:51)Retired runner Joan Benoit Samuelson,56, was 15th American woman to finish (2:51).
Jeptoo split 76:00/69:07- is that a record for negsplitting and winning?
Mutai went 65:06/63:18
My guesstimate is the wind took 1:45 to 2:15 off Mutai's time. A circa 3 hour master figured he lost 3 mins because of the wind and did not feel any wind aid running from the Bronx into Central Park.
He also commented viewer turn out was much much lighter in the traditional low viewer ship areas of LIC, Upper First Ave & Mott Haven in daBronx. Surprised it was even poor around Garvey Park which usually is a high noise spot.
The US based marathons should have International/All-Comers and Americans only prize divisions to help get press for American runners . American should also be allowed to double dip and take all-comers prize money along with American only cash.
