If you're going to talk about the wind hurting him in the first 20 miles, you can't discount the tailwind from 20-25. Obviously the two don't equalize each other, but you can't ignore it.

The wind seemed to destroy a lot of people back where I was running. I saw and heard a lot of people staring at their Garmins to make sure they hit their planned mile splits without adjusting for the weather. First avenue appeared to put an end to that.

I found the number of spectators to be fairly consistent with most years, but I was more focusing on running than doing crowd counts. Marcus Garvey was fairly loud, but a lot of that action seemed to have migrated down to 110th street. If the crowds were on the low end, it was probably because the weather was pretty miserable for standing around and spectating.

How does having American prize money help improve American marathoning talent? Vail, Eggleston, Hartmann (no contract), Meb, Hastings, Nelson, etc., these are all professional runners. Running is their job. They give it 100% and still didn't run well today. It's a shame and I agree that it needs to improve. However, having better prize money isn't going to improve the situation and American-only prize money won't increase media exposure for the sport, either. The SPORT of distance running is dying, caused by the ACTIVITY of running.
