Hall vs Meb at NYC 2013

I am pulling for Hall to finally get out of his slump, but, I gotta bet on Meb because of his better resume and the fact that he's looked fit in his recent results.

Hall - DNF

Meb - 2:10

Meb is far more consistent than Hall but I am a Hall fan. I want Hall to run 2:05 for the win but this won't happen. He will probably be 2:09-2:10 IF he finishes and he will beat Meb.

Hartmann will be 1st American.

Don't worry guys, I got this. My goal is around 2:07

If he runs 2:10, he's not going to beat Meb. Dude is a pretty consistent 2:09 nowadays, except when he took 4th in 2:11 at the Olympics. Meb will break 2:10 and I think he has a reasonable shot at finally going sub 2:09.

Hallo just got back from Kenya and is in killer shape right now. He is going to tempo through next weeks RnR Half and then go back to altitude until a few days before NYC. Expect him to be ready to go with the lead, whatever that's going to be.

I don't think Meb will run 2:09 or even 2:10. His best NYCM is 2:09 in 2010, right? He's 38. 2:12 would be a great showing for NY. I'm rooting for him but I'm realistic.

Hall will talk the talk and then one of two things will happen

1 he lets the leaders go and runs his own pace saying he thought they'd comeback to him.

2. He runs with them until 1st ave when he doesn't or can't cover the move on first ave...then talks about some new thing that will transform him... But he can't change what is between the ears

Meb always kicks Hall's ass. This time will be no exception.

Also, he raced very well 6 years ago in NYC. He's been hitting some really good training. No idea what to expect, but I'm excited to watch.

Ryan has been doing 18-20 miles a day every day with lots of strength type work. So he's in great aerobic shape but his speed is lacking. He will have the aerobic strength but will fall off when the surging happens likely around 25-30km. Meb will run 2:08 high or 2:09 low, Ryan will run 2:08 mid and beat Meb by around 20 seconds. Thats what I'm expecting

Hall runs well, Meb closes well. Both run 2:09 for 4th 5th

In terms of marathons, Meb has beaten Hall at:

2009 NYC Marathon

2012 Olympic Trials

2012 Olympics (Hall DNF'd)

Hall has beaten Meb at:

2008 Olympic Trials

2010 Boston Marathon

Meb has the advantage, but of the 2 races they've both done healthy, they're 1 and 1.

Also, yeah, Meb is aging, but his last 3 marathons have been 3 of his top 5:

2:09:13 PR at NYC 2011

2:09:08 PR and win on a challenging course at Olympic trials

2:11:06 for 4th on a quite slow course at London Olympics

The only 2 marathon performances of his career at or higher than this level are his 2009 NYC Marathon Win and his 2004 Olympic Silver.

So, yeah, Meb has been pretty solid lately. You can never count him out.

That said, I think Hall is due to rip one and he sounds a little more levelheaded this time around. Neither has much shot at the win, but they could go top 3 and I give Hall the edge.

Should be interesting to see these guys against Kawauchi.
