Sounds like you had a bit of that seasonal affective disorder. Winters can be rough. I recommend playing in the snow in the woods. Also, babes and good music. And good literature. No substitute for that.
While I can only know so much about your situation, I recommend going with your gut feeling. Your gut is always telling you what is right.
"Broadening your horizons" is always a good call. Once you discover everything that this world and its people have to offer, and fully have confidence in what you have to offer as a human being, you will never be bored again.
In the wintertime, I rode my bike around campus to keep things interesting. Never knew a patch of ice would leave me on the ground. A good hat and gloves, winter tires, wind proof clothing, and taking turns slowly. You should be good.
