Like a lot of people my age, the training has got more of a burden, particularly with a young family. Also, I just feel WEAK like an old man.
For 20 years I've run cross, road and track. Like many though I started as a sprinter (got down to 51 for a 4) before moving up the distances. I used to be more muscular in those days (soccer was my other sport).
So rather than stopping completely I was thinking of running A LOT LESS. My main focus will be gym work and track work. I'll aim for 4 - 5 (short) sessions a week and then do some local track races next summer: 200s, 400s and maybe the odd 8.
What benefits will there be for a man approaching 40?
What will I miss about being a distance runner?
