That is pretty amazing -- I also remember, however, reading a stat on MJ which said he'd never lost an outdoor 400 metre final in his entire career.
If this is so (I can't recall, but I seem to have a vision of Johnson being pipped at the post in 2001) JW has some pretty big (golden) shoes to fill.
That said, 44 seconds dead and a perfect season at the age of 20 is not to be sniffed at.

Wrong. But from 1988 to I believe 1997, he was undefeated in 400 finals.
Great for an olympic champion thats nothing special. Think of the seasons coe and ovett and MJ and Sanchez and Bubka went unbeaten and continual conpeting against best in the world and breaking WR's. good but not good enough to wank over
You're right ... I can't believe I'd forgotten this, but MJ was beaten by both Mark Richardson and Iwan Thomas in Oslo in 1998.
