I don't know too much about the dec, but aren't the Americans typically better 1st day guys? If so, then we're in trouble. I know for one thing that our 3 decathletes are not too fast in the 1500M (even compared to other decathletes).
pappas is actually a pretty decent 2nd day guy.
1500 aside, he has hurlded well, throws the disc and the jav well. most importantly, he is a very good vaulter - the spot where the most points are available.
however, he's dug himself a huge hole - a medal would be an accomplishment at this point.
Clay is a GREAT second day guy. Will probably win the hurdles, win the discus, vault o.k., come in second in the javelin to Sebrle, and no telling what he will do in the 1500. A medal is his if he is willing to gut out a good 1500!
