Hi everyone, this is my first post to this site. I've been reading these forums religiously and finally decided to post for myself. I know there are a lot of great runners here and I was hoping to get some great advice.
I'm a novice to running and just started running seriously about four months ago. I am an ex collegiate football player that got fat and decided to take up running to lose the fat. But damn, I fell in love right away and not like rec runners fall in love. I ran my first half with five weeks of trainingat 210lbs in 1:39:32. Signed up for another one 6 weeks later and ran a 1:34:39 at 192lbs. Weather was 80 degrees and a horrible split killed me and had a shitty taper (you live and learn). I just finished my first 5k at 18:37. I know these numbers aren't impressive for most of you but I want to CRUSH these numbers in November at the Philly half. So a couple of questions for you fast people out there. First, in your honest opinion, is it in me to run a 1:25 in November? Also, what kind of training changes would you make for meright now? Here's my stats first (29yo, male,185lbs, 5'11, and 8% BF so losing weight isnt too much of an option anymore).
Here's my regime before the last half:
M-4-6 miles easy. Tuesday-alternating weeks between 400 and 800m repeats with an active recovery lap. Wednesday:4-6m easy. Thursday: 30-60min tempo. Friday: Rest or 3-4 easy. Saturday:3-6m pace. Saturday:10-12 mile long alternating weeks with fast finishes or comfortably hard pace. Total: 38-46 mpw.
I'm trying to build my base w/o getting hurt. In addition, I lift 5 days a week with 3 core days.
Thanks again in advance. And hopefully I'm welcome here :).
