I would say based off that race he will not be able to handle the pace at WC's just like many of his other WC's races. Leo IS SO OVERRATED

how is anybody impressed with this?
1:46 means he will get his socks blown off him in moscow.
That would be a great point if he hadn't shown for five years that he has a kick as good or better than anyone else in the world.
Just ignore these Manzano bashing fools. The stupid on this board is knee deep.

Not terribly impressive for a miler.
El G and Lagat ran 1:46 flat over the last two laps of the '04 Olympic 1500.
Just sayin.
Yet, Manzano just ran faster than both El G and Lagat's lifetime PR's for the open 800 last night.
Side note - Bile closed in 1:46 low in his 1987 win, so the El G/ Lagat 1:46 high close wasn't the fastest ever.
But the 2004 race was s faster overall time.
1:46 is not bad, but I would expect to see 1:45 shape 3 weeks and go into the WCs in close to 800 PR shape. With that said, I don't put too much stock in any time Leo runs outside of Championships.

Bingo. Frankly, I'm surprised he ran an average time. I would've pegged him for either a 1:43 or 1:53, given his normal race performances.
Side note--Rui Silva closed in 146.3 in the 2004 final--the best in the field. Great bronze for him.
who gives a sh%t. he knows how to win and race when it counts. if his pr was 3:37 and he had a gold medal, do you think it matters?look at meb keflezighi. his PR in the marathon is poor compared to other elites but yet he knows how to compete well. ryan hall has a nice pr but that's really proven to be...uh....worthless when it comes to race results, hasn't it?!below average PR doesn't translate to ability to do well in big races.

I know for a fact Leo ran 1:47.XX in Austin 10 days before the 2012 Olympic trials as one of the local training groups provided 400m / 600m pacers to go through the first 400m at 53.5s. It wasn't a meet, it was just another Leo workout in the overall build-up for the trails/Olympics. The rest is history: Winning the Olympic trials and then getting the silver medal at London. watch and see these next few weeks...............
This bring up an interesting question. When Peter Elliot was running 20+ years ago he had 1:42xx as an 800m pr and was considered not to really have a finishing kick
Since the Coe, Ovett, Cram era the UK has several guys who could run 3:31-3 who never medalled due to lack of finishing pace: Mayock, Whiteman, East McCormick, Yates
Has the standard dropped or do the Americans have better tactics or better short kick?
I agree with the poster who said if you have a medal, 800m time is irrelevant. It just surprises me that runners with a relative lack of pace are medalling
