(1) How can you live in America and NOT know of Georgetown's superb academic standing across so many disciplines?
(2) How can you be in the "track community" and NOT know that Georgetown has been an incredibly successful school in cross country and track - so many All-Americans...who trained on their superb facilities and on the great trails on the river.
The ignorance amazes me

If running doesn't work out she can command six figures pretty much anywhere she wants, she's a smart girl.
Yes, the "commanding six figures" part of this post may have overstated the Harvard effect. But the smarty-pants negative replies are definitely understating it. New Flash: Plenty of Americans are plenty status-conscious.
Apply for a "given job" in Florida, Texas, or Washington state with a degree from Cornell or Brown, and yes, there's a good chance that no one considering even knows that those schools are Ivy League, and you'll have little or no advantage. But apply to ANY job in ANY state, and EVERYONE knows Harvard. If things are close between the Harvard grad and the Pretty Much Anywhere Else grad, who would you put your money on?
especially Penn, people in Pennsylvania don't even know its an ivy, because its public

Is 25 a small number?
Does Mary Cain want to be 25th in the nation?

something is better than nothing.
I think there are only half dozen tracks in all of Kenya.
Go Pro! Strike while the iron is hot, both financially and competitively. If she has a Webb/Ryan arc, 2016, not 2020, could be her best chance for gold.
Take The Money and Run worked for Woody Allen. Mary Cain will listen to the advise of Allyson, not Allen.
No coach who cares about their program would recruit Mary Cain. Her preferential treatment will cause strife among the team. Alberto will control what events she runs, what races she goes to, etc. And then in 2016 she will probably go pro anyway (contracts are most lucrative in the olympic year). If I was a top high school recruit I would steer clear of wherever Mary Cain goes.
Good heavens--Bekele is such a dope: spent a million dollars to build his on track so he'd have something adequate on which to train. Couldn't figure out that you don't need tracks in order to be good. Clearly, he didn't get adequate advice from his coach. Tell you what, TrackCoach, I'll get you his address. Maybe you can write him and advise him; maybe he can sell the track at a good price

I doubt if you're going to Harvard you care what Mary Cain does or how she's treated.
There's only a few schools that will be on her list. She'll prob' visit a half-doz. or less. All will be more than happy to accede to her plan of Fr. competition and Al's input.
Put down the bong.
No coach with any self-respect would recruit Mary Cain only to have Alberto call the shots....and yea that includes all the Ivies that are on her list, Georgetown, Villanova, and Stanford. They all want to win true but they all have egos as well. Just remember that.
Mary will run for a commune. I will coach. Mary will arise at 5am every morning just like everyone else to milk cows.
I heard the one school that was great at athletics was North Carolina State. If she joins the wolfpack it would relight a fire from the past that carries much tradition and success. Also they have some great girls to go with her.

No surprise the head coach at Harvard would sell himself, and Cain for that matter, to Salazar to get Cain. Don't mean to be tough on the guy, but his problem is he has done literally nothing in five years with many talented recruits that are attracted by the Harvard cachet. Many leave the program after they get in, some leave Harvard altogether, e.g., Billy Orman, some end up with serious injury, e.g., Cotton, and lose all momentum. It is probably the last ivy Cain would seriously consider.
My guess is Princeton easily outdistances the other ivies by far when it comes to the complete student / athlete experience for a track and field athlete, if Cain can get in. It is the most difficult ivy to secure admission.
Just sayin'.
