Bumpin it.
If you run for a D1 school, basically any Joe Schmo can get in....if you run for a d@/D3/NAIA/CC it will be more difficult.
From my experience, these are usually the kind of standards for a guy to get in the meet for 5k.
Major D1 School: 15:00
Small D1 School: 14:45
D2/D3/NAIA/CC: 14:25
Post-Collegiate: 13:50
If you know someone, you can also play the politics game to help yourself get in.
There are a lot of politics behind the scenes, which is why they always say "We cannot guarantee acceptance of any athlete".
If you go to a school that also runs a big meet, you can be assured Stanford will take care of you with the expectation that they are taken care of.
For example UW, who hosts all the Dempsey indoor meets has a lot of leverage at Stanford because they make sure to take care of the Stanford athletes and put them in the heats they want during indoor season.
It's an unfortunate part of our sport that athletes aren't treated based on their talent, but instead on their school affiliation.
Thanks, appreciate the info. It is funny cause I was talking to a teammate the other day who said it was really hard to get in, but when you look at the results it seems it wouldn't be that hard to get into a slower heat of the 15/5k, but maybe people just show up and run way slower than their seeds? Who knows...
what a crock. indoors is optional in california. stanford has a small indoor team.
