It looks like the field in Madison is shaping up to be decent again in 2012. In 2011 there were 39 Men’s and 44 Women’s teams that competed. The numbers for 2012 so far are 42 Men and 44 Women. Those numbers may be a little high because there are a handful of schools that list both the Wisconsin meet and Pre-Nats at Louisville on their schedules. The Wisconsin adidas meet is on Friday, 10/12; Pre-Nats is on Saturday, 10/13. The biggest changes for the Men are that BYU and Georgetown won’t be competing, but Iona, Eastern Kentucky and Portland will be.
Chile Pepper is also the same weekend. Arkansas (Men), if you can believe it, lists both Chile Pepper and the Wisconsin meet on their schedule. Both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State haven’t released their schedules, at least as far as I’ve seen, but have gone to Chile Pepper in the recent past.
Obviously, I have not checked the schedules for all 300 and whatever schools, nor have I even checked all schools in the Great Lakes Region. Given that the Regional meet will be in Madison this year, some of those schools may come to the adidas meet as well.
There are 27 schools that sent both the Men’s and Women’s teams to Madison in 2011 that are sending both again in 2012:
Arizona
Arizona State
Cal
Columbia
Georgia
Indiana
Iowa State
Kansas
Michigan State
Minnesota
NAU
Nebraska
New Mexico
North Carolina
North Carolina State
Notre Dame

Oregon
Princeton
Providence
Purdue
Stanford
Syracuse
UCLA
Washington
William & Mary
Wisconsin
There are six Men’s and six Women’s teams that competed in 2011 that aren’t competing in 2012. I think all of these, except maybe Clemson are going to Pre-Nats and I’m surprised that there aren’t more teams making the switch. Perhaps that’s because Louisville is hosting a different meet two weeks before.
