I am a 1500 3:58, 1:56, 5k 15:29 guy
Looking at colleges I really want to run close to a place where trails and outdoor recreation are main focus of the town any suggestions of schools open to D1 and D2.

Boulder or Eugene, forget academics. The world needs ditch-diggers, too.
academics- exercise science, U of Oregon is too fast for me
USC T&F won 4 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals in London, 25 medals total. USC has 10 major marathon wins, the most of any university.
Boise State would welcome a guy like you. You might even get books or 10-15%, maybee even 25% if they have it. Call up old Brad and check!
Agree on BSU. Program on the rise. 100's of miles of trails. Awesome city. Can't beat it.
LA is the last place I would want to run concrete jungle
Exercise science? Why in the world would you major in that? Do you plan on finding a job when you graduate?
Oh wait, I know why you picked it. You've defined your life around running and sports. You don't really want to commit yourself to the rigorous study of anything, so during the small bits of time you're not either running or playing ultimate frisbee, you're "studying".... wait for it... exercise and sports.
Hate to be mean, kid, but you're type is a dime a dozen - athletes that want to study sports. Use college to develop a passion - something that gives back to the world - and study that. Exercise science will get you nowhere except back in mom's basement in 4 years (like most on this board).
you sound like a loser. please please please dont come to BC.
yes by all means get that accounting degree so you can sit in a cubicle and really impact the world! I teach at a mid major university and we have approx. 350 exercise science majors ... a large portion of our students are looking for careers in the medical fields. Cardiac Rahab - Physisian Asst.-Physical Therapy - Nursing - all sorts of options...and yes even personal training. One of graduates is making $70K working for one of the big fitness chains in a nice suburb and enjoying quite a good life. Just be passionate about your major and education and go where you want to go.
L.A. has the best trails, training partners, running tradition, and athletes. No wonder USC and UCLA top the world in Olympics and IAAF Outdoor track & field medals and major marathon medals.

I wanted to fix it myself before someone flamed me. And to exercise science fan, solid points although accounting doesn't exactly represent the rigorous study of something that gives back to the world.
Wow don't be so quick to judge I am 18 and already a working Emt and planning on doing physical therepy exercise science is
Great route on getting into grad school and how is that not rigorous study who are you to so almighty and say I shouldn't do what I am passionate about.
If you want a great running program, a city that embraces the outdoors, has tons of trails directly in the city and all the amenities of a medium sized city, try the University of Portland.
Indiana.
That was my point exactly...what is your magical major for the young man to study? Very sophomoric arguement and attitude against exercise science-there are pros and cons to any and all majors but don't unfairly pigeonhole an entire discipline because you don't happen to appreciate or care for it.
The best academically, running only requires a mediocre coach to get better at, education takes a good teacher.
Another vote for Boise State.
