This is the only reasonable idea I have seen on here. Plow over the cemetery? Seriously people? Nobody is going to drive the 2 hours from the Portland airport to Eugene. You think the dignitaries would agree to that sort of inconvenience? And what to hang around in a place like Eugene? They are too important for hamlets like Eugene. Get back to reality, people.
I don't where they would put a stadium in Portland. The Timbers stadium already is packed in there pretty tight. Although a high school track is conveniently located across the street. Buy up Portland Meadows and throw a stadium in there? And then U of Portland or Portland State could have themselves a nice little football program when the World Champs are finished. Why not just throw the thing on the edge of Beaverton? Hell, Nike could plow over that track on their campus or fill in that lake, get rid of a couple parking lots, maybe do something with those farm fields on the southwest side of their campus that appear on Google Maps. Who the heck owns that patch of forest south of the campus?
That land south of the Nike Campus is owned by Tualatin Hills Park and Rec Dept. I doubt they would sell it for a new track stadium. That forested area does have running trails, but is a nature park.
I believe that PGE Park would be the site. A track (temporary for two years) could be installed inside the stadium which has access to the Light Rail system which is connected directly from the airport. Portland has many thousands of good hotel rooms and is an economical city for lodging and meals. Vin Lananna is going to be workin part time for the University of Oregon and part time for Nike/Oregon Track Club. This arrangement will give he and Phil Knight/Nike a lot of flexibilty to do what need to be done to make it happen.
Chance of slim to none I'd say after Obama lost the Oly bid to Rio on the 1st vote due to the Arab and Islamic nations.
2012 London, 2013 Moscow, 2015 Beijing, 2016 Rio de Janiero, 2017 London, 2019 ???????
2019 is a long ways away. The U.S. economy will have to be roaring for Portland Metropolitan Area voters to approve a free stadium for billionaire rich boys.
Otherwise Nike Supreme Headquarters in Beijing would have to build the new stadium in Beaverton from funds drawn from the People's Communist Bank.
