I go through regular trainers in about 2 months. Things like racing flats I can wear forever because there's not much of anything to break down but they just don't have the same "pop" after a while so I'll usually replace them about midway through the year if I'm racing a good bit. Track spikes and xc spikes never seem to actually wear down to the point where I need to replace them but I usually will get a new pair once every couple of years because I'll see something new I like. I still wear the old ones though. I'm out of college and I still occasionally use my xc spikes from my freshman year of high school.
When I was competitive I was going through my training shoes about every 6-7 weeks. I would go through tempo shoes about 3x year. Now trainers about 2x/year. usually shoes go flat around 600 miles for me.
Twice a year, every 1,200 miles or so.
I've put about 1500 miles on my current shoes since January. I'll probably replace them in June or July, so about 2 pairs/year. I used to replace them much more frequently when I wore regular trainers but, now that I wear lightweight trainers or flats, they last much longer, cost less and I can still handle 90+ miles/week. Win win win.
how do you guys make your shoes last so long? is it because you run with forefoot/mid-foot mechanics? ive heard that helps to preserve shoes but havent been running in my shoes enough recently to know.
i'm always amazed at how people can put such high mileage in their shoes and not be injured or in need of shoes due to bloodied feet
some shoes wear out slower than others
