Which new model should I get? I was thinking of getting The 410 or an older 405 but not sure

Make sure you dont need to just reset it. If I yank my 305 off the charger, it goes blank (dead) but after a reset (pressing a bunch of buttons at once...look it up) it is back to normal. No way should a Garmin from 2010 already by dead. I've had my 305 for close to 5 years and it still holds plenty of charge.
The Garmin watches are ridiculously bulky and uncomfortable. The strap is made of 100% pure plastic and it makes my skin sweat and become rashed/irritated. What a piece of shit.
If you're going to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a Garmin, you might as well get the latest and greatest. The 610 is a great watch and isn't really that much more money than the 410. Stay away fromt he 405. The only reason the 410 exists is to fix the bugs in the 405. The 410 is already a year and a half old at this point so if I were in your position I'd look at it from an investment standpoint. Since you've already gotten 2 years out of a less-featured 110, grab yourself a 610, without HR strap, and run with that for another 2-3 years.
I've been using the motoactv by motorola. It has a full color touchscreen, wifi, bluetooth. When I walk in the door after hitting "end workout" it automatically turns wifi on and syncs my run to my computer. It has a relatively small footprint, much smaller than my Garmin 205. GPS accuracy is quick and accurate. It can play all sorts of music files including MP3.
The motoactv website allows you to challenge other motoactv users, plan future workouts, set goals and its all very streamlined and well made.
It also has a lot of fellow runners turning their heads wondering what watch i'm wearing. It has different accessories to mount it to a bike, a clip for a bag, etc.
The only and, to a lot of people, major, downfall is the battery life. It's not even ball park close to my garmin 205. But with the motoactv website and a color touchscreen i'm still very happy with it. Also, motorola's constantly updating it (i think there's been 4 updates since its launch December 2011) so its well supported.
try letting it sit 3 days tto empty battery then recharging. happens sometimes.
I would go with the 210. It should have everything you need and if you are a student they are giving a $50 rebate for student athletes.

My Garmin 110 died... Had it since 2010.
Sounds like Garmin makes a pretty high quality product.

Straight replacement if you're interested. Tend to have great prices. Amazon would be my next stop. It's like the Walmart of the internet.
do not get the motoactv for sure. I absolutely hate it. does not beep at mile markers, no alert for intervals. Took multiple attempts in order to update software. Battery life.... i'm too slow for this thing, so I don't even know if it will last for a marathon.
I don't plan on using it as a music player, and I cannot tell my mile markers, lap, or distance alert if i dont have a headphone connected to it.... very annoying indeed.
Go with Garmin 610. LOVE IT.

+1
The 210 is basically the same as the 110 but it gives you your current pace.
Unless you are really into racing your ghost or loading training plans and all that stuff, the 210 has everything you need and is the same size as a normal digital watch.
My 205 wore out after 5 years or so. (Battery wouldn't hold charge, and it leaked water).I sent it in and they sent me a refurbished one for 50 bucks or so.
Also, try the reset someone else mentioned.
Sounds like a reliable make get the latest one and impress all your friends
I weep for you brother. Its a sad moment when your close friend Garmin 110 dies...
210 or 610 are both great. I have used both after using a 405 for about year (210 is my gf's). I like both better than the 405. The 210 really does everything that most will need. The only reason I picked up the 610 was because I was able to get a good industry deal on it. It's super nice... just not sure that I will ever use all of the fancy functions.
Check out the Garmin website first. I just got my 310 refurbished for $79 and it nows runs like new.
