Not just beat High School kids, beat ALL the High School kids, even the most talented, such as Robbie Andrews. How many D3 athletes beat ALL the HS kids that ever ran? Not many.

I was talking about the outdoor record. So you're right. If we only consider indoor times, this collegiate athlete could actually beat high school kids.
Oh, and one more thing... wrote:

Umm...I think that was his point. Not many DIII "athletes" can beat children.
You know how I know you're bad?
Scheetz couldn't outrun a child with 1:47.. The average PR reported by Letsrunners is 1:39.9 anyway, so he couldn't even post on these boards.

This season, no one in DI has run faster than the school record for Bell Gardens High. Imagine that, in all of DI, no one can even top the record of ONE MEASLY HIGH SCHOOL. DI is a total farce.
What is wrong with you people? The all-time best high school runners win scholarships to Div I programs, and hopefully become our next Olympians.
The cases that a Div III runner gets that fast is so incredibly rare that it is certainly an accomplishment worth noting. Hell, even Nick Symmonds couldn't run faster than Scheetz's time this week.
So any word on Scheetz's split in the relay last night?
and how many DI athletes have ever run faster than Webb's HS mile record?
you're just looking for a reason to throw stones at someone who ran a great time. Scheetz would qualify for DI nationals and have a good shot at getting AA, so stop the hate. He's one of the top 10-15 collegiate 800 runners right now regardless of division.
I'd say his 800 is more than very respectable, he made the OT finals in '92 while still in college. He was a 1500 guy after that year. In HS he was actually a sprinter (and won a state TJ title), progressing, if I remember right, to the 400h early at Northeastern and then the 800.
Post-NU he signed with New Balance and was known for his all black uni and shoes, sharing Johnny Cash's Man in Black nickname for a while.
His 4th in the '96 OT was the fourth year in a row he made the finals at USATF 1500, plus the 800 in '92. A pretty good run of years for anyone.
His medal was at World Indoors, a pretty big difference from outdoors, although El Guerrouj was the winner, so it was pretty legit.
He was coached by Mark Lech, who also guided Riley Masters under 4:00 at UMaine. Mark Lech has coached 2 of Maine's 4 sub-4 milers.
I'm not sure of his split, but he looked pretty bad. Amherst kind of sh!t the bed in that race. On paper they looked great, but couldn't put it together when it counted. Scheetz started aout 8 seconds back according to the announcers and then went out in 2'02 (again, according to the announcers). I guess he realized he wasn't going to catch the pack with Tufts, TCNJ, Geneseo, and NYU, so he just gave up, because he finished about 5 seconds behind that pack, so only made up about 3 seconds overall... I guess he was saving himself since he realized they weren't going to make it at that point.
Anyways, here's the video from Friday if anyone cares. Should be linked to start at the men's fast DMR.
I ran with Scheetz -- He got laid between his sophomore and junior year.

So it's Scheetz 1, AmherstRunner 0?
Finally! This explains the mystery of why MIT runners never get better...

Or anyone in the UAA..
Sheetz is running the 800 and mile at nationals. Unfortunately not going for the 400 again, which he won last year I believe.

yeah and it would be the hardest event out of the three for him to get this year. I think he made the right move.
Didnt advance in the 8 or the mile at dIII nats! What happened?? anybody know?
He is sick.
Anyone know whats been up with him outdoors? The fastest he's ran since is a 1:50. Did he maybe go back into a heavy training phase and isn't race sharp? (the amherst track/xc page said something about qualifying for the OTs in the write up of his 147)
I would guess he was having injury/burnout issues given how he ran at indoor nationals, and the fact that he didn't race for awhile outdoors. He's probably just been coming back in the last few weeks and given how talented he is he could be a threat in the 800. Will be interesting to see.
