If one had a young athlete with an interest in the 800 but with a difference between LT and pb in 800 of 7263km/h in which direction should his training go?"However can you expand on this interesting issue of whether to train according to the energy demands of the event (as Peter Coe and Frank Horwill clearly did) or, as you say, to train according to the athlete. Presumably, if an athlete was a very resistant type and not particularly fast over 200/400 you would determine that his training direction would be to maintain a high level aerobic power and aerobic capacity with a short period prior to racing 800 of anerobic conditioning?
