the depth of this race a few weeks after 14 men ran under 2:08 in dubai, and the USA trials had 4 americans under 2:10 for the first time in one race, and the womens depth is exploding as well, distance running is definetely increasing in depth.

Do you really think elite runners go through the same registration and qualification process? Elite runners should never have to do the same crap as hobby joggers. You get a privilege by being a better runner.
90 runners at 64:58 or better!

A fairly fast half marathon is still NOT a Boston Qualifier.
maybe you need to “join” the BAA Board of Directors or their Marathon staff. It is THEIR race, they can do what they want.
Seems like odd timing for a half marathon. Another attempt at the full distance on the cards?

now i know where to go if they keep the half qualifier.
They are rebuilding their empire.

A 1h02' Kenyan will run a 2h07' Marathon, but a 1h02' Japanese will either DNF or run 2h10' in the Marathon or never make it. Such a bummer, but a flaw in Japanese training methodology.
DNF? Japanese marathoners almost never DNF. Most 2:06-2:07 Japanese marathoners (there are 11) have not broken 62, or not by much. Likewise for the 23 guys who have run 2:08.
Japan is of course a great marathoning nation. However, your above stats, while true are a tad misleading and do not reflect the recent decline in their abilities.
1) Of the 11 "2:06-2:07 guys" they have, only 4 are under 2:07:30. Most are just under 2:08 (still impressive, but when reading the stat the way you wrote it, one might think they have a bunch of guys way under 2:08).
2) Only one of those 11 did his time in the last 8-9 years. All of the others are not recent times. They appear to have hit a dry spell as far as the marathon goes for them (and that is there only event). For awhile there, they could legitimately challenge the east africans in the marathon (and only the marathon). But now?? The east africans routinely break 2:05, while the japanese rarely break 2:10. That's the reality. They are WAAAAY behind the east africans now as far as top talent, and elite depth.

The least allistar Craig could've done was to jog it in in 3:05 or under out of respect for the hobbyjogger standard!!!!!!!!!
Circumventing the rules cuz ur elite and DNFing Boston as your marathon debut really pisses me off!!!!!

Are you sure that they are circumventing the rules? Maybe it says they are allowed to let whomever they want in?

Yeah. Pretty clear they're whacked in the head. And it appears they're even letting Kip Litton race too, because after all, they can let in whoever they want!!!
3/10 you fell for my trolling!!! Hahaha!!! Allistar craig need to jog it sub3 LoL
If I run a 1:10 half can the BAA let me in? NYC lets you qualify with a half marathon so why not Boston?
Look at who they run for. Most of these are running for their corporations. japan is approximately the size of California with a more developed economy. If we had this kind of support in the US, well there are only a couple clubs out there that do this though. I'm not surprised by the results with the assembled field. here in the US, the races are so far aprart from each other and even our National Championships can't draw the depth of these races. Great job Japan!!!
People are fans of the sport in Japan. Ekiden is a huge deal there.
"Elite runners should never have to do the same crap as hobby joggers."
Great idea there. Methinks some of the angrier elites who pen comments like that might want to wake up, remove the stick from their behind, and realize that running fast doesn't mean anything but that you can fun fast.
We can all agree running fast is a fine and good thing, but it does not give you license to be a douche bag.
Japanese have always had depth but few outstanding individuals - its like they reached their limit. For many years they had literally crowds of 2:09 to 2:11 guys and almost no-one below 2:08:30. Somewhat better now, of course, but still the same pattern.
Allistar Craig better not DNF Boston again
It's disrespectful to hobbyjoggers to DNF a debut marathon at BOSTON
Do not let elites debut marathon at Boston...it's insane!
