I have no idea what you're talking about. When I was under 10 years old I was constantly building mechanical and electrical devices and toys, building forts while learning carpentry, reading books about the natural world and sciences, playing musical instruments, spending hours just staring at atlases and star maps... and I am not an anomaly, as my male friends did similar things.Girls were reading, coloring, and roll playing with dolls. They didn't (and still don't) care at all about how any technology works or functions, mathematics, physics, zoology, philosophy, etc.Not much has changed in the decades since.Even in med school, when the females aren't studying, they're drinking, reading David Sedaris, shopping, or watching TV.I don't believe there's a difference in how "smart" girls vs boys are as certainly they're equally academically capable. However, I think that male polymaths outnumber their female counterparts 100:1. I haven't yet figured out why.

my kids and all of their friends support the idea that boys and girls are indeed wired differently. the sad fact is that boys are really stupid and girls are really smart. if you watch a large group of kids under 10 years old the boys will all be smashing the legos and toy cars on their heads and laughing (until one finally gets hurt and cries) and the girls will all be readings, coloring, role playing with dolls, or engaged in some other activity that is a lot more creative and intellectual than breaking toys on their own heads and then wondering why they got hurt.
