I don't think she was that attractive even before the accident.

Too much of a generic blond for my taste.

The concept of the "dumb blonde" isn't applicable to actual blond-haired people. The term exists because so many people change the color of their hair to blond. Natural blond hair is obviously unrelated to intelligence, toughness, or anything about character; changing one's hair to a supposedly preferable (because rarer) color can be plausibly related to a person's confidence, concern with appearances, and tendency to absorb and act on commonly held but unfounded beliefs, and the ways in which it's seen to relate to these has been popularly distilled to the technical term "dumb."

Do you ever feel empathy for people?
Terrible things happen to people we don't know everyday. Many of them accidents and not their fault. Can't spend a lot of time feeling bad for people you don't know.
This was an extraordinarily stupid, nearly impossible, thing to do. It's not tragic, it's dumb, and 100% her fault.
What kind of plane was it? How many engines? Props on the wings or nose? How high were the wings? If you are not used to being around aircraft it can be disorienting, especially at night.
She isn't the first person to do this. Guaranteed.
Just looked her up...eww...that was before the accident, too.
Definitely not the first time it has been done. The plane was an Aviat Husky, a two seater. All the configurations I have seen or looked at have one prop on the nose. They have a high wing (mostly irrelevant except a low wing may have prevented her walking towards the prop.
Still makes no sense that the pilot would not turn off the prop prior to letting somebody out.
Props are something that always have to be respected by both pilot and passengers. I've hot-fueld an otter many times and it is still intimidating to be so close to the spinning prop--I keep my shoulder pressed up against the fuselage at all times.
bguyj2009, you are shallow. This is news, why? Because she's blonde with blue eyes? It's a terrible accident, but it's not newsworthy, and people who are "very sad" like you are just very shallow.

What really sucks is that this shouldn't have even happened. I blame the pilot. what idiot lets someone off a plane with the propellers still spinning??
She'll still be beautiful. She lost her left hand and half of her face was sliced up.
Who?

I work around airplanes also and have seen people get dangerous close to spinning props. It is usually passengers or people that are not familiar with aircraft. I guess with the props spinning so fast and you cannot see the individual 'blades' they don't appear to be a hazard. Again, especially at night, the danger zones around engines can be hard to distinguish.
That is why the pilot should have stopped the engine OR she should have been escorted by someone familiar with the aircraft.

We escort tandem passengers and student skydivers to and from the plane and are taught to keep one hand on them at all times (and for the instructor to be between the student and the prop. On the Otter we are not even that close to the prop but you never know what people very high on adrenaline and distracted are going to do. Students are taught to always approach the aircraft from the rear. Licensed skydivers are expected to know. If we have somebody go on a ride-along then we escort them off the plane as well. We are frequently loading/unloading/and fueling with props spinning.
that is a man

On the other hand, there seems to be no shortage of time to make fun of them and call them stupid. We seem to have as much of that time as we need.
you are all truly, truly bad people. having worked with her multiple times, Lauren is not just beautiful on the outside, but also in the inside. any of you check and see what kind of impact she has made on the community with her fundraisers? ever actually TALK to her? i've been on this board for 5 years now, and i'll never return. the fact that the mod lets comments like the ones on this thread remain and persist, appauls me. this woman lost her arm. she's on her way to multiple surgeries to repair damage to even become functional again. to speak about a young woman as wonderful as she is, having never met her before and knowing NOTHING about her, you should be ashamed. this board had eroded into one big disgusting abscess of human filth. you can all piss off. as i said, i hope that the mod reads this and makes note that you've lost a longtime reader.
Letsrun has mods?
letsrun has posters who pretend to know models?
This has happened before. I remember an air show about 25 years ago where a mechanic walked past a T-6 WW2 war bird and had his arm sliced off by the prop. She is lucky to be alive. Remember, the prop speed of even a parked plane is about 300mph. In flight a high performance P-51 mustang can have its props rotating close to the speed of sound. When you watch that old WW2 footage of planes diving on ships making that high pitch squeal, that is the propellers rotating through the air at supersonic speeds (700mph). To US navy officer that horrible noise became the stuff of nightmares.
Somebody is responsible for this unnecessary tragedy.
Even the most hardened combat pilots would not make these kinds of mean spirited comments. This is a sickening accident, and totally unnecessary!!!
My theory was she was used to flying in Jets and when she left the plane walked near the wing not realizing there was a spinning propeller there. A spinning propeller is also hard to see.

Good Lord!!! She looks like a man now! Damned propeller!
It's been fun, but there is just too much negative energy here and too many new ass holes who post bullshit and lots of great people who used to post all the time who have left or gone underground. I'm out. Life is too short. I'll be in kona. Hope to see some of you there. Paulo knows how to find me.
Don't let the door smack your ass on the way out. You can even spell appalled, you ignorant shit.
