Greenway set the small school state meet record in the triple jump. He's a very impressive athlete. Ben Leber, who plays linebacker alongside Greenway, was one of the best h.s. sprinters in South Dakota in 1996-98.

I just checked and Greenway's triple jump state meet record still stands from 2001 - 47'1.5".

I won't pretend to have direct knowledge on how they weigh a player, but would bet it is NOT in pads.
1.
http://1stplacesports.com/mat115kres.htm23:44 is 27/68 in 25-29
2. you have no clue therefore you speculate (incorrectly), that's letsrun messageboards in a nutshell
You do realize that 27/69 is the 39th percentile - not 50th - right?
makes letsrun posters look like such pussies it's amazing.
You guys are ridiculous. A guy and his wife run a 5K together and you have to rip them apart. Seriously?? Chad and his wife are really really really good people. And no she wasn't super elite in college and yes at 250lbs as a linebacker its not easy running a 5K if you have never run anything other than sprints before in your life. I understand why some people are curious, and would like to compare professional athletes in other sporting arenas aka what could Lebron run a 200M in??? or what would the race be like if you had the whole NFL run a 5K...etc...etc. But dont rip on people you don't know.

Of course I do, I was just estimating from memory when I said "right around 50th". The overall point that this is a crappy 5k time for an adult man 25-29 stands whether it's 39th percentile, 50th, or 61st
So If you took a random sampling of 25-29 year-old Americans you don't think his 5k would destroy most of them? He was still better than the average RUNNER in his age grop at that race. I live in a fit state and ran better than 75% of 27-year-olds with a, I'm guessing awful in your mind, 50.xx 10k time in a fairly large race in boulder that occurs around memorial day. If running better than the average runner in your age group makes you a terrible runner then you have a lot of disappointment waiting for you in life.
Would Galen Rupp wear his winter coat, if the weather was to cold as well. Under his football uniform!!!

why would a running chick want a fatass NFL player? golddigger?
Being 242 does not make you a fatass. Having a fat ass does. And if you have ever seen Mr. Greenway it would be difficult to find an ounce of fat on him, that's 240 lbs of solid muscle that you would not want to encounter on a football field.
And the ripping in this thread is absolutely absurd and pathetic. I've run this race before, and after winning I got to talk to Chad for 15 minutes while we waited for the awards, and he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He and his wife put this race on for charity, and it's really a great event.
I think it's awesome that he and his wife decided to run, and if you are ripping his time then you have no idea what kind of training you would do as an NFL linebacker--it's definitely not long intervals.

Dude probably has a big rod.
Why would a running chick want an NFL player? Hmmm, let me take a wild guess. First and foremost, probably because when they take off their clothes they don't look almost identical. Beyond that, he is and always has been a leader. He is confident and this attracts women. He has a great career and makes a lot of money. Like it or not, this is an attractive trait in searching for a mate. I wouldn't expect the average Letsrun poster to know anything about why a woman would desire a man so I just wanted to give you a brief education.
In regard to the performance itself, think of it this way. In his offseason, this NFL player goes out and runs a 5k with his wife for charity. What does the top American distance runner do in his offseason? Bitches via Twitter about hurting his elbow because some big bad kid pushed him down. He should have had his wife confront the guy.
Thanks for adding some logic, and no hate, to this thread. 23:44 is pretty darn good for an NFL athlete, and sub-20 is decent for any female past college age. You haters keep ripping on them, though. From the poster who actually knows them, it sounds like they are good, athletic people, hopefully a happy couple who have a happy and satisfying life outside of running.
Athlete #1: Below average distance runner. Too large and aerobically underdeveloped to win local 5ks. Also an elite player in the NFL who is famous and makes millions. Incredibly strong, powerful, agile, and posses a superior skill set that sets him apart as an athlete in the most popular sport in America.
Athlete #2: Above average distance runner who occasionally wins local turkey trots. Not good enough to be professional in their preferred sport, however. Has no chance of being elite or making money in any other sport because they have no valuable athletic skills other than being able to run 5:30 pace for a few consecutive miles. Feminine physique, frail, weak, awkward, and uncoordinated.
Tell me, who should be making fun of whom here? If we're talking strictly about athletic achievements, I think it's obvious that Chad Greenway wins this contest in a landslide, despite the fact that he ran a slow 5k.

My saying "I don't have direct knowledge" was saying just that. Nor do you. I just don't pretend I do.
That said: They don't fvckin weigh football players in pads.
You still have not shown me a roadrace where his time puts him at the 50%. You probably did not have a clue and just speculated.
Athlete #1 would be too busy enjoying life rather waste time whining about ANY 5k results.....
The joke's on Athlete #1 if there is no NFL season. How could he possibly make any more money? I assume all the NFL athletes will flock to local 5k's for the $100 prize or medal in order to support their families.
hateful racist rhetoric.
this person's race is of no importance.
except to racists.
it's amazing how the bravery of being anonymous prompts some people to be so outspoken on message boards.
this is a running website.
chill, dude, chill.
Greenway wouldn't make a half-decent JV cross country team.
I wouldn't make a half-decent JV football team. Seems about right.
Also, he's a professional athlete who gets paid millions a year to perform at his best. I was a D3 scrub. I should hope he's more athletic overall than I am.
I'd be impressed, but the course is short. Next.
