I think there is probably going to be a spectrum of "clean", and it would be very rare if a winner of the TdF wasn't pushing the boundaries of what was permissible. My guess is that the last time there was a truly "clean" winner of the TdF, was whenever PEDs were so unrefined that they didn't really provide much of an advantage... so... maybe the 50s or 60s?
You should stick to a different topic. If you are fond of reading books, read the ones on Jaques Anquetil. It was not just him on drugs, he was just the most successful of the Road Convicts of that era. If you don't know who he was, he was the first person to win 5 Tours. He was probably the greatest pure Time Trialist of all time (maybe Hinault could make that claim).
