Why manzano jacking around in this slow race? Lol. Kid will never learn.

If Salazar/Lananna had coached Rupp et. al. to something like this... The excuses would not be on this board.
We know what the posts would be like.
Time to hold GF's coach to the same standards.
STOP MAKING FANBOY EXCUSES FOR GF.
That wasn't a race it was a UFC match.
It's probably a pretty good eye opener for Manzano. I'm sure he thought his kick was the sickest shit in the world as much as we did. He was probably laughing to himself the entire last lap until the shit hit the fan.
This is a great learning experience, hopefully he wont put as much stock in his kick when the real races come around later in the year. He needed this race. Still a great job.
Jack Daniels put it best - every miler thinks he has the best kick. German can't kick with 200m to go off a slow pace - but neither can El G in a ridiculously slow race with Lagat on his back.
This was uncharacteristic of German. He started dead last. He ran in what looked like lane 3 with 400m to go. He was constantly boxed in.
Only thing I can think of at this point is his fitness is not good enough to take the race by the neck from the gun - therefore he was hoping to kick it in.
Like I've said all year, he'll have a mediocre year before bouncing back next season. At the top NCAA level - if you lose fitness, it takes a while to get back into it. Perhaps even a whole track season.
2011-12 indoor/outdoor season - beast mode.
I don't know why everyone is suprised by the results today. I posted this a couple of days ago and since no one was listening, I'll post it again.
"I just don't get why everyone believes that GF should be winning the national cross country race. He never won footlocker in highschool. As a matter of fact, GF never wins any race where he's gotten a ton of challengers. He's basically a glorified time trialer. Does he ever win races where there are multiple lead changes or someone else hammering hard from the gun. Even his national 1500 title was a race he was allowed to control from the front and just run away from everyone. GF is just the rare individual who runs better alone, than with a ton of competition.
Has he ever won a race he didn't control from the front???"

Man.... it wasn't even that! What a complete fu@$king pathetic use of their time and ours! What in the hell were they trying to do out there, prove they're $hit? What on earth is going on here??????
It's like what's his face keeps saying, -
"It's all part of the plan, get slower each year".
Well, god damn it, I'm starting to believe it after that sack of $hit run!
There is no way in hell he wanted that,..... for any reason whatsoever! He said though that, "It didn't mean very much" and boy, I guess he meant it!!!!
Something very serious "off the track" has happened to this guys head - maybe he really and truly just doesn't want it anymore? But hey man, if he's happy, then it's his choice and we gotta respect that, right?
In this case, true talent really is a paradox!
Time to take a cold shower and get a life!
Shit!!!!

I don't think that's how Manzano thinks.
Read my lips: This was German's best race since his 13:25 AJR. I expect a strong outdoor season.
Some, of course may disagree. But those of you who are spouting about 4:17? 4 freaking 17?!? either don't understand the sport at all or are just trolling. Either way, not interesting.
Give the kid a break. He has more talent than anyone posting on this board and has delivered some outstanding results in HS AND at OSU.
Achilles injuries are very difficult to recover from and can lead to further injuries caused by overcompensation. He probably needs to see a good physiotherapist to have any muscle imbalances identified and do some therapy to eliminate those issues. Maybe someone could talk Gerard Hartmann into a trip to Stillwater. It might be just what the kid needs.
The last thing he needs is another thread on Letsrun indicating that he is "done." The guys who are posting these threads would be the first to kiss his ass if they ever ran into him off of the track. That's after they ran their latest 4:00+ 1500m.
I wish German well recovering from his injuries and hope that he can find his form and have a good outdoor season.
