Let's be honest...runners in general can be a bit quirky, and by nature, may not be the best suited individuals to be in a sales position.
That said, I have had the good fortune of knowing and interacting with many of the men and women on the Hanson's team, and I can say that they were / are, incredibly kind and generous. What a few of them may lack in social graces or bubbly personalities, is compensated for in a true love of the sport, an intense and dedicated work ethic, and a genuine interest in the local running community.
And I have to disagree with the suggestion that Brian Sell was arrogant. On the Sunday night after the Olympic Trials in NYC, we were at the baggage check together. Here was a guy who, one day earlier, had just made the Olympic team. There was no self-promotion, swagger or attitude. If I didn't know who he was, you'd never know that he was one of the best marathon runners our country had to offer. Similarly, if I happened to see him running on the trail, he would always say hello. If we were going in the same direction, we'd run together for a bit.
By the way, this is not to take anything away from Verran or Kyle either, who are also good guys - even though O'Brien now eats donuts all day while he rides his Segway Scooter to fight crime. Just kidding Kyle!
