who cares? I don't.....utlrarunners contiunously avoid competition!...anyone can run slow for long distance, sleep, take a hour break, eat breakfast lunch and dinner, and continue to consider this a race.....GO AWAY

Anton quits if it gets tough...Roes is newer to the sport and wins everything and breaks records doing it.
What a bunch of crap, Krupicka finished strong at this year's Western States after going out too fast and being caught by Roes. Krupicka finished second and was under the old course record even when adjusted to the course change.
You are an idiot.

Calendar at
http://www.ultrarunning.com/surely you can find one close to you and go show 'em how?
speaking of the women, i'll redouble the shout-out for meghan arbogast. she's 49 years old and tearing up tough courses. a real inspiration. similarly, northeasterner jack pilla, in his 50s, is also amazing.
as for up-and-coming men, dakota jones finished second at white river at just age 19, and yassine diboun might not fit into the top handful, but he's been consistent and solid and improving.
how about connie gardner? just won the north coast 24 hour run in 141 miles. 2nd at badwater. 2nd at burning river 100 and also did western states this year
For women, Jamie and Kami are the 2 most proven. There is a lot of talent on the womens side of the sport for sure.
Duncan Callahan, Gunnison Endurance Project. Out of the 4 dozen names slung around in this thread, I'm surprised no one mentioned him. Leadville 100 etc.
I'm amazed there has only been one negative comment so far on this thread. There are more ultra runners out there in letsrun land than I thought. And even more amazing, based on the names being thrown out, people who follow the sport. The top level competition is better now than it has been in the past decade that I've been in the sport, and it is getting better. Plenty of young guns like Dakota for the guys and Rory Bosio for the gals (plus others) make it interesting in a sport that has been dominated by a typically older crowd.
Duncan is a stout runner but no way he is in the top 10. You just read Born to Run and think that Leadville is a cooler race than it is.
This was fun to read and brought back some memories of races I had against these guys. How about now days. Who are the top ten ultra runners in the sport today and what ever happened to Gingerich? That guy was so fast.
i keep looking at this thread to check the date...what year are yall talking about hahahaaha all the bros yall mentioning are old homies from like 2-3 years ago hahahaha now just cherrypicking less competitive races and eking out visibility based on slow-moving sponsorship deals signed in that same period of time, when it looked like minimal shoes were set to take over the market. there's a whole new crop of men and women blazing races, taking down records etc and doing it with flavor. def a lot of respect for roes, tony, jurek et al but yo this thread needs a REFRESH hahaha
Wow. Did LetsRun used to be... better?
Are there people still around from these days? Why haven't you left yet?
Karl Meltzer.
tough to say. some guys race too sparingly to see.
back to back wins at WS100 bodes well for timothy olson, though he hasn't done much else. he hasn't faced kilian at states...but who knows if KJ ever comes back to WS

He lives in Portland and still races some fairly quick though not elite ultras.
Some top guys now:
Rob Krar, Killian Jornet, Tim Olson, David Riddle, Mike Morton, John Olsen, Sage Canady, Dakota Jones, Joe Fejes

does Josh Cox qualify as an ultrarunner?
He COULD be, but when was the last time he actually attempted one? 2011?

It's incredible that people don't read dates.
arent ultra runners too cool, laid back and crunchy to worry about "peformance" and being "ranked". They're just out there for the experience bro.. taking in the sites...
