I fell off the running wagon for about 6-12 months and am about a month back into it now. 6'4", 182 right now. That's about 10-12lbs above where I was when I was running 25-35mpw just sort of haphazardly.
I'm running a half-marathon in November just as a little test, but my longer term goal is to get in consistent running form again and get down to a <1:30 half next year.
I've never run consistently (12+ months of consistent training), never been coached, etc.
I'm at 22-25mpw right now and have a program ramping up to 35mpw over the next few months.
My question is, should I just focus on gradually building my mileage and not worry about tempo runs, speedwork, etc.? I live in a hilly area, so I'll get some variety there.
Also, should I try to run 6-7 days a week, vs. the usual 4-5 days a week? That puts me at more shorter runs with one or two longer, vs. just 4-5 middle length runs.
And finally, as my mileage goes up, will that weight-gain take care of itself? I eat generally very healthily (except for some wine/beer here and there)...and I'm not really interested in obsessing about diet right now.
Thanks!
