So, I want to compete in a 5k in Feb. or March and I was wondering the best way to train.
Background: I got kind of burnt out from running last Spring. I've been running ~15 mpw for the last 4 months due to getting lazy and being exhausted after work.
All the runs are easy (6:45-7:15 pace). 3-4 miles 4-5x a week. Occasionally, I'll pick up the last half mile or so. I ran a mile in the middle of summer in 4:59 (74-74-77-74) on a cinnamon roll for b-fast (I ran this @~4:30 in the afternoon-I got bored one day wanted to see if I could still break 5).
I'm starting to miss running, so I was thinking of training for a 5k early spring and then sharpening into a few 800s/1500s in May.
Should I just run base miles (50-60 mpw) for a few months and then put in some specific stuff, or can I just add workouts now while I build my mileage up?
