badly?
badly?
Title of the thread should be 'Lauren Fleshman, move to MEXICO!!!' assuming the OP intended to address her.

What is the going rate for an encounter with a hermaphodite?
Ohhhhh!!!!!!
I've been all through this thread and so far there hasn't been any relevant information.
When is Fleshman moving to Mexico and what part?
Will she be representing Mexico in international competitions?

She writes as bad as most of you.
"as badly"
That being said, I believe there is no “sportsmanship” in rabbiting a fellow American to a record that you yourself have a chance to achieve. The greatest show of respect you can give another runner is to be their honest competitor, giving them nothing more than the opportunity to beat you fair and square with your best effort. Selling yourself to make their glory possible (when you have the ability and desire to achieve the same result) is selflessness bordering on stupidity. Offering your skills to help someone do something beyond your reach or outside the scope of your individual goals is something else entirely.
I’d rabbit an American to a 1500 American record, or a 10k, no problem, if it made sense for me and my season goals. Then its not a sacrifice. In my opinion, there is no place for sacrifice in professional running.
Lauren
It is pretty clear that we are seeing some biased reporting on the letsrun site these days.
But if she were Mexican, then she'd be willing to rabbit an American record attempt, right?
I understand that she had a typo and meant to say "sole"
Typo or not, it's a goofy thing to say.
Why do these folks feel they must blog this stuff?
Why go to such a crude and derogative analogy that is degrading to women? It's invited the deserved ridicule she's received.
You can think these things, but why feel like you have to share it with the whole world?
You're a moron and a troll.
Like you'd help your co-worker get that promotion you always wanted..
Agreed. Her writing often seems to contain forced attempts at humour. I think her blog and writing and the 'balls' type comments are her means to make herself marketable amongst a bunch of american middle distance women who are more accomplished on the track.
The comment itself regarding sooner selling herself on the street is laughable. Seriously, if someone put a gun to your head and said, rabbit Shalane or sell your body on the street do you think she'd choose to lace up her spikes, or spike up her hair and put on some lace?
The problem is, people take everything literally. What she said was fine and I bet anything she wouldn't sell her body on the street.
It's 100 percent obvious what she meant and it the "sell my body" quote is a bit of hyperbole, so what. I wonder about you people.
Maybe by "sell my body on the street," she meant "make prop bets with other runners that I can say 'balls' more times in a post-race interview than anyone else in history."

But apparently it's only 0% obvious to you that you're susceptible to trolls. So cute!
Lauren Fleshlight.
The criticism of Fleshman by the OP and on the homepage is just obtuse. She was plainly trying to say in a colorful way that she wouldn't help someone she looks at as competitor for the 5000 AR break the AR, which is perfectly reasonable, not unpatriotic.
This is why most running blogs are boring -- if you're not bland, filtered, and obvious in what you say, you get a bunch of whiny, oversensitive criticism that ignores what you actually say. Fleshman's blog is one of the few running blogs that has some level of candor and individual personality to it. Be grateful for it.
But instead, we can look forward to more boring Nuke Laloosh blogs in the future, because people want to avoid stupid criticism:
"Y'know, I'm just happy to be here and hope I can help the ballclub. I just want to give it my best shot and good Lord willing, things'll work out... Gotta play 'em one day at a time, y'know..."
I actually don't think there ever was any criticism of Fleshman on the homepage. Just a statement by Wejo/Rojo that they didn't understand her comment. Perhaps they do now.
Maybe people are put off by brash talk about 'balls' and getting American records. I get your point about looking for colorful characters in the sport. But at the end of the day there will always be people on the other side of the equation who look for their heros to just go out, get the job done and have humility. Maybe that is what this debate boils down to. Some people are put off by Fleshmans words while others love them.
Take it or leave it, she is putting herself in the spotlight with these comments. When you put yourself in the spotlight at some point you've got to walk the walk. Fleshman has shown flashes of greatness but also some real issues with mental fortitude (ie. stopping in the middle of a race only to resume). This presents an interesting psychological question surrounding what her motives are for putting these comments out there. Is she trying to give herself confidence? Get Nike to re-up for another 4 years? Get some laughs on her blog? I'm no sports shrink so I don't know what the best way for an athlete who has shown (and talks about) her mental fragililty, to deal with these things is. This could be an interesting debate without hopefully dragging a good runner down in the process. If she's just out there looking for a few laughs, fair enough, then Wejo/Rojo and the OP & I are reading far too much into it and I apologize on behalf of all Mexicans who are unsure if we want to adopt Ms. Fleshman as one of our own.
Why would anyone want to have a running log online if every comment is going to be overanalyzed and you are going to have to edit what you say based on what some random people you dont even know think. She has clearly already walked the walk lol.
maybe her motives are that is what she was thinking at the time when she wrote the log- i know that is amazing and deep but it doesnt always have to be rocket science with 10 ulterior motives when someone says something.
Also the whole balls thing is obviously vastly exaggerated because shes a woman. If a man had said the exact same thing there would have been minor amusement/comment. Wehn she said it everyone freaks out. News flash- this is 2010 women "curse" although obv balls is not remotely a curse word- just as much as men. Even if you think that is the most disgusting thing in the world it is also true.
Exactly, why would anyone put this stuff out there for people to read? Now that she's put this out there, it's obvious that she hasn't walked the walk, because the talk is now about running the American record. She just put that out there for everyone. Puts more pressure on her own shoulders and I just don't get why she'd do that in the face of her previous breakdown on the track. NFL teams, put this kinda stuff up in the lockeroom for inspiration, you don't think it'll inspire Shalane to ensure she continues kickin' Laurens butt? Maybe she does it to light a fire under herself... and if that's what it takes then by all means. I find this whole athlete blogging culture quite fascinating.
theoretically speaking, if she decides to, how will selling her body and face in a package deal affect the overall value of this deal.
Personally I feel it will heavily devalue it because she is ugly and masculine.
