Is John out at Eastern Michigan?
hump de bump....
What was the timeline on Goodrich at Wake? Was he let go by Wellman or did he resign? Was Wellman even there at the time Goodrich left?
Goodridges left summer of 1999. Francie was causing a stir around Wake for title ix B.S. and was fired for kicking up too much. John resigned in support of his wife. (Although he was already looking for a way out because 1999 track season he took some of the men's team to Michigan meet so he could apply for the job that was opening there - speculation of course). Need a head coach administrator and assistant sprint/distance/multi coaches that are worth their weight as RECRUITERS and coaches.
esposito at high point a possibility?
anyone is better to talk to than duggan, every phone call he would just talk about fast kids in europe he was trying to bring in, how is that possibly a good way to recruit
So what does this mean? Did they keep Scott Hall and are hiring a distance coach. If no Director or Head, why advertise for an assistant?

I gotta tell ya... Esposito is doing a hell of a job at HPU. I was living in Winston-Salem when he was hired from Tabor High over to HPU. That team has come leaps and bounds since he got there. One thing I worry about though is the lack of sprinting prowess they've had. Now that may come down to more location and resources cutting off recruiting than coaching. I don't know. But Esposito has done a fantastic job with the distance crew, especially the men.

I've known Espo for years and agree he's done a hell of a job at HPU. Other than a shorter commute to work why would he go to Wake? Both are D1, it's not like Wake is known across the country as a running powerhouse. It may be easier to recruit for Wake than for HPU, but would he get university support for the program?
I think HPU is more interested in building a quality program, so as much as I think Mike would be great for Wake I'm not convinced Wake would be good for Mike.
The ACC vs. The Big South... pick your poison.
Not that it should be on the Track Coaches radar all that much but High Point is an academic joke in comparison with Wake too. That would definitely be a recruiting tool, however High Point's campus is supposedly like a resort... granite countertops in bathrooms, resort-style pool, etc.
Eh. HPU's campus aint that great. It's nice, but let's not go all gaga here. Besides, it's in High Point, which is kind of dumpy, imo.
Wake's campus is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. They have their own trails on campus, too. Not the best in the world, but good for training and warm-ups because they are less than 100m from trackside.
And yes, the ACC vs. the Big South would be a huge recruiting advantage for the coach. But as stated, how would Mike do in getting and coaching the sprint talent? He coached J-Mee Samuels at Tabor High to that 10.13 HS record at the time. It would SEEM that he had a large role in that, as J-Mee could not recreate those times for a few years at Arkansas. But I really have no idea what kind of sprint coach he could be. I hope Wake is at least taking a look at him.
I heard the AD has already contacted Scott Simmons from Queens.
Here are my early favorites:
-Karen Harvey - Great choice
-Brad Hunt - will certainly apply
-Kevin Jermyn - does he want a whole program?
-Andy Gerard - Great fit
-Craig Lake - damaged goods?
-Willy Wood - great coach, will he finally move?
-Steve Dolon - does he want to leave a cushy job?
-Alex Gibby - a step down athletically, but his own program
Thoughts?

Simmons won't be able to pull his sketchy shit in D1...he's better of bending/breaking rules on the d2 and NAIA scene.

That seems like a very high-caliber list there. But I don't understand why some would leave where they are already... like Karen Harvey is at FSU in charge of the women's program and doing amazing things with it. They are same conference and a bigger school so I don't know what the lure of Wake would be for her. Plus her husband is a pro and trains out of Florida...
Same with Gibby, William & Mary is a contender every year and always seems to have an unbelievable crop of distance guys, but I guess it probably is most coaches dream to have their own program, right?
Check and see how much Gibby makes at W&M...that's why!!

how about throwing wake alumni nolan swanson in the mix
No chance
Karen and Kevin could do an amazing job there. Wonder of Gary and wife Rita would look at this? Most of those names aren't ready for head of anything (great coaches, but it is different being in charge). Look for one of these 2 power couples! Shame for Scott Hall!
Interesting list. Why would some of these people leave their current situation to go to wake. It's going to be really bad there for the next few years. Really bad.
My vote is that it'll be a surprise choice.
