Didn't David Torrence run a downhill sub-4 mile? How did that work out for him?

Downhill or not, I wonder if this is the fastest mile ever run by someone whose primary sport isn't running?
Sub-4 mile captured the imagination. How does the time/gradient and age compare for the David Torrence and Lukas Verzbikas mile?
It is obvious that he is an incredible talent. It is also obvious that he is out of the box, probably because there was no opportunity or system in place for the next step. If you commercialize HS running, you should at least have a next step.
Who is the youngest person ever to break 4?
...Ali & Jordan need to move over! This kid is 'Thee Greatest Of All Time!'
Oh yeah, guess no Olympic Medals are given for downhill mile races...how sad.
p.s. what ever happened to other high school phenoms, Chapa, Hulst, Nelson, Williams, Kimball, etc.,???
Why are you all treating this race like he peaked for it?
He probably trained right through and just had some fun in his season opener.
There are much better things to come from Lukas this season.
...or Ryun, Liquori, Webb, Ritz, Hall, Solinsky?

Honestly I've participated in these downhill mile races before and you are usually around 15 seconds faster than you normally are, I'm really surprised this is much talk at at all honestly, I thought LRC memebers were supposed to know more about running.
Hell, this is on the level of the Joggers world and Dean K crowd.
Hey, man, there is talk about runners, not joggers. The downhill part was about 350-400 meters. The last quarter even a little bit uphill. So, you are saying, he gained 15 sec advantage (comparing to flat course) on this 400m interval? Would you be able to run 400m downhill in 43-44 sec? I bet, you'd be drop dead even before starting it, because 1:57 for the first half of mile is not for joggers.
Will Lukas be running for the US if he gets to Olympics?
he wants to be on the triathlon for the olympics.

This dude's form is f***ed.
It sounds like he whooped a couple guys who are 4:05-4:10 types and he opened up his season with it. Plus the guy looked like he was simply finishing a fun run, not racing a mile like Torrence and the crew recently.
I'd say sub 4 on the track is not out of the question for him this season, which apparently just got started.
I just checked my fiancee's gps watch from the race and I only see a net altitude loss of 60 feet in this race.
I don't know if this will post correctly but here is the data:
The downhill starts at .6 miles and goes to about .85 then back uphill.
Hope that helps.
Elevation Gain: 0 ft
Elevation Loss: 60 ft
Min Elevation: 670 ft
Max Elevation: 755 ft
richard kandie ran 23:01 for an 8k two years ago on an accurate course. To give you an idea, Brian Sell ran 23:20s or 30s on the same course a couple years before Kandie. So he's a pretty good runner. I wouldn't be shocked if he was capable of a legit sub 4.
Any results for the 2011 edition yet?
I ran it and was there today. I think he got 359 officially but he looked 355 to me
Thanks for the info. I finally found an article about it:
Almost more notable than Lukas' performance was his friend and teammate Kevin's performance: "Geneva's Kevin McDowell, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, also competed in the event, despite currently undergoing chemotherapy."
Pretty amazing...
I just read that about the other runner. Wow.
