I work in a large warehouse with a concrete floor, so am walking around on hard concrete, often briskly, at least 8 hours/day. A couple years ago I had plantar fascitis which I self-cured by rest, foot exercises, and switching to different work boots. A lot of people at my job wind up with foot problems.
Per week, I run 20 mi. outside and 20 mi. treadmill, and would like to increase, for a race that's about 1 yr away. One thing I'm concerned about is that extra-pounding could take a toll on my feet (luckily I have no knee/ankle etc issues).
To save my feet, would I be better to get a shoe with heavy cushioning? Does someone make a shoe with a heavily cushioned version (for routine use) and a light version (for mostly racing)? Would I be better off to explore minimalism, which, according to what I have read, greatly strengthens the feet?
I am mostly concerned about foot-pounding on the treadmill, which I use for intervals & tempo runs. My runs outside are longer and slower, and almost all grass/dirt so do not seem to pound my feet as much. Right now my feet are fine but I wish to keep it that way. Any advice greatly appreciated.
