Does anyone know what the fastest 3200 meter run is for JH (7th and 8th grade)?
Does anyone know what the fastest 3200 meter run is for JH (7th and 8th grade)?
I thought this was about a certain popular runner...
I ran 10:54 in 8th grade for 3200, a long freakin' time ago... thought I was the fastest kid in the world.
Not so much.
Ritz ran 10:20s
Frank and Chuck Assumma
10 year old Chuck rips a 5:07.3 mile. An age 10 best!
At 11 years, Chuck became the first 11 year-old to break the five minute "barrier" as he ran 4:57.8! The two ran in tandem through laps of 70, 74, 78, before Chuck pulled away with a 75.8 last lap. Frank ran 5:02.3!!
Chuck also ran 10:05.7 for 2M - an all-time age best for 11 yrs.
Chuck and Frank ran 8:53.4 and 8:53.9 respectively for two miles while in high school.
* 8:52.4 and 8:52.9
had a friend who ran 2mile in 9:20s hi or 9:30s low as a 9th grader - way long time ago .... mid 60s. Don't know if he ran in 7th or 8th grade. With the internet and increased # of runners you would think there would be some 'record' of 7th-8th grade exploits
Yes by some EA on the way to a 5,000m
Assuming that a sub-9:20 3000m is around 10 minutes; there are quite a few kids that have run a 3k that would convert to a 10 minute 3200. I know the Assuma brothers, the Perkins, the McDougals, Torres' and the Rosa brothers did. (That's odd that there are so many brothers.)
They don't run the 3200 in U.S. middle schools and the organizations that govern youth athletes, the AAU and USATF run the 3k. Elias Gedyon ran 4:05 1500 in a youth meet several years ago; I am sure that means he was capable of a 10 minute 3200. Btw, Joe and Jim Rosa was in that same race.
Hey, does anyone know what the National record is for a seventh grader? We had a seventh grader run 4:39(1600) and 3200(10:02) by himself. I know the age group records, but just wondering where we could find school aged runners records.
Jorge Torres ran a 4:33 1600 in 8th grade and a 4:37 in 7th. He ran 9:52 for two mile xc in 8th grade too. I think Ed broke 10:00 as well.
Where do 8th graders run 3200 meters? Junior Olympic meets are usually 3000. If a high school has a good runner like Ritz do they let them in a high school race as an 8th grader?
I think Ritz did run around 10:20 as an 8th grader which is amazing. The guys that step out at that age and run 4:30 miles or 10:20 two miles probably never trained more than a month.
Some states allow 7th and 8th graders to run with the high school teams, Rob Finnerty ran a 9:23 as an 8th grader in MN
Pretty sure Ryan Deak ran 9:0x or maybe faster as an eight grade runner.
Jordan Hasay went 9:52.13 as a junior, crushing the spirit of Laurynne Chetelat.
There was a time when a lot of the local youth conferences ran 16/32 or mile 2 mile. I watched an 8th grader run 4:24. Also saw a 7th grader run just a shade over 10. This was twenty something years ago. these guys weren't even the best in the country. 10 flat is rolling for a 7th grader though.
4:24 in 8th grade? I call bs. When I was in 8th grade I didn't know a kid who could run that pace for a half mile!
You really probably wouldn't believe I watched a 7th grade girl double 10:45, 4:58 then.

Please, Verzbicas was almost at 2:00 flat in Junior High for his 800m
There are plenty of middle schoolers who can run a 2:12 or better in the 800m
