NW Master is right about the great women's race, Hastings led most of it, Jentook over late, but Amy came back hard on the inside when it looked to be wrapped up for Jen and leaned Rhines at the line

The outcome of this race is shocking, I tell you, shocking!

I wasn't impressed with Rupp's tactics. He let the Adam's State guy go with two laps left. If Braun had a bit more left, he maintains that gap for the win.
Rupp is now a pro. He can't toy with people like he could in college. He should have stuck right on Braun, and then kicked him down for the win.
Um.....why? what does being a pro have to do with anything? And who cares if Braun had won? Why do you assume winning this race has anything to do with Rupp's plans. This was a good setup for his 5k next week, got his feet wet so to speak. I doubt he would have been destroyed if he lost the 3k to someone who went 7:46 or something after running a 3:56 pr less than 2 hours earlier.
Not everything is about winning, rupp made it clear his 3k was just to get in and relax and feel what running fast feels like. Rupp was just getting a good hard day in...3:56/7:51, then a tempo run after. Pretty impressive setup for next week if you ask me.
Let's wait to his real races where he's actually aiming to win before juding his ability to know what it takes to win.

Sitting and kicking is a lazy tactic, not a competitive one.
Rupp is not a competitive runner.
spoken like someone who gets kicked down on a regular basis
how does two hard races help rupp for next week? seems like too much to me

Kenenisa Bekele is not a competitive runner.
See what I did there, JR?
Not only did he double but he went out and ran a tempo run afterwards (he said this on the flotrack interview.)

great race. really hope this gives braun a chance to go pro, he just keeps improving year to year. and bauhs is looking fit after a year of hard pro training. why would rupp double? hope salazar has this under control and doesnt burn him out

The Stache wrote:Yeah, all the rupp should quit talk and he can't run as fast as german talk is pretty stupid. But it was kinda funny to see the facility record on the results listed at 7:47 held by one German Fernandez. I chuckled a little bit.
German, who was peaking for an upcoming world XC race, vs. who is getting ready for the late spring/early summer track season a few months out.
German running one race, not a double, and ending up injuring himself by going too hard too early in the season: having to settle for skipping Indoors NCAAs, for the lowly World JUNIOR XC, normally a race for high school seniors and college freshmen who can't make varsity on their own teams. I would chuckle at that too.

Who said these two races were hard for Rupp? They may have been more "under control" than you think.
You don't just go out a run a 7:51 after breaking 4 in the mile when jogging.
Good competitive race - thanks for posting
i think all three of these guys can run under 13:20 this year in outdoor, its going to me awesome to see how rupp races when he can focus solely on running. it'll be awesome to see how Scotty does now that hes transitioning into a new system better, and aaron braun setting the way for probably 4-5 other guys on his team to go under 14 this year (probably 4 under 13:50)
I'M EXCITED

Doubtful. Seriously, you rupp-butt-sniffers have been saying stuff like this for years. So now after struggling for years to break 4, now we're supposed to believe that a 3:56 followed by a 7:51 in the same day is just sharpening for next week *real* race?
We'll see what happens next week.
I doubt Scotty can challenge Ritz at US Cross, but perhaps he's the favorite for 2nd? Who else might be up there. Smyth? Nelson?
And during this time Shaheen was running 7'43 in Europe.
Ain't nothin' wrong with sitting on somebody and kicking them in an early season race that means nothing except another notch on your belt. No runner needs to demolish the field, set PRs and prove his manhood every time he competes. Sometimes being a smart competitor means winning as easily as you can. Maybe you've been watching too many Steve Prefontaine movies? (By the way, the Duck ran many races where his goal was simply to win.)
Great call out. People who don't have wheel or don't what it takes to break someone mid race always use that excuse.
Rupp ran well. Forget that we all know he is good. Baughs ran very well and he has not done that too much in the last year. So congratulations. Braun ran great and we can only look forward to his bright future. DIvision II NCAA is producing some pretty good American's and that is awesome, considering the number of coaches that have gone to non-US athltes in an attempt to win. Adams state and chico both do it right.

i agree with everything you said, and adams does produce extremely good american athletes, but im pretty sure the majority of their top 7 or top 10 are foreigners.
